What are some good roads around Pensacola, Florida?

All of my Floridian enthusiast.....I need some suggestions on a some nice roads in and around Pensacola......son just moved there and he's itching to get some road time in. He comes from SoCal but he's not expecting the canyons he left behind......Phil

I lived in Pensacola for a long time and now live in CA. Two roads I really enjoyed in Pensacola:
  • Scenic Hwy: If you're downtown Pensacola, you can take Scenic Hwy to head up to northern parts of Pensacola. This road drives along the eastern coast of Pensacola and has some really nice views.
  • Pensacola Beach: If you're in Pensacola Beach and keep driving east on Via De Luna Dr past all the beach homes and resorts, you'll drive through some pristine looking beaches with very few people around.

Drive up to Alcoa, TN, stay there overnight, drive the Dragon at dawn and then return on the Cherohola (sp?) Skyway. Lots of other good roads off of the Blue Ridge Pkwy in the Tenn, SC, NC and VA areas to explore.

Honestly, not much around here outside of the aforementioned ones. There is a road that is near the airport - Jerry L. Maygarden Road if you care to Google it - that is full of twists and sharp turns that most locals like, yet you usually are wise to drive it once through to check for any pedestrians as it is also used as a walking/jogging path at times. Hwy 98 along the coast towards the East is nice once you get east of Destin...lots of open space and straightaways, but absolutely no elevation changes. I consider my self a "Flatlander" due to my 30 years here...
