Dealer says buying extended warranty from them guarantees a loaner during service

I called my local dealership to ask what their best extended warranty price is for my car, and one of their finance managers called me back. He said that they don’t usually discount the extended warranty but that I should buy it from them to guarantee that I get a loaner car when I bring my car in because otherwise they may not give me one.

I’ve always assumed that a loaner car is a given when getting your car fixed under a BMW warranty — is that no longer the case? Or is this just a sales tactic?

Scammers of the highest order. I hate the stealerships.

You get a loaner when you drop off the car. How can they even tell if the repairs are covered by any warranty at that point until they look at the car? Loaner should be provided whether repairs are non-warranty, warranty bought there or warranty bought elsewhere.

Well, he's not totally wrong.

He's guaranteeing a loaner for the warranty he's offering to sell you, which is likely a BMW warranty.

If you went out and bought a 3rd party warranty somewhere else that didn't explicitly cover loaners, then your dealer would not necessarily be obligated to provide you with a free loaner.

I work at a BMW dealer as a service advisor and at my dealership we'll give anyone a loaner Regarldess of warranty status , 3rd party or BMW or if you have a beat up e46 with 200k miles. There are dealerships out there who can refuse to provide you a loaner if you didn't buy your car from them or if you're out of warranty , etc. each dealer is different and has their own rules/ policies. There is no universal rule on this topic
