Probably because of property taxes, but still would never personally live in a state flat income tax, doesn't make sense to me as consumption based taxes are a better model IMO. Buy an expensive house, cars, clothes..pay more taxes, live small and cheap pay less taxes.

Funny, I can say the exact same thing about visiting Texas. Nothing makes me appreciate my home more than stepping outside of the airport after a flight from Texas and not being slapped in the face by a wall of humidity.
