Apps for Learning Piano

Hi All,

I wanted to know if anyone is aware of an app that can teach piano, using key indication (as opposed to a musical score)?

Preferably, that can interface with a MIDI keyboard / digital piano.

I am shortly purchasing a digital piano (when they have stock, as it is a popular model it seems) that has MIDI integration over bluetooth.

I have looked on the Google Play store and there are multiple apps, but it is difficult to determine what to go for. I was hoping if someone here had practical knowledge, they could share their experience.

Android or Apple is fine.

Thanks for your time ... cheers ...

I played piano as a kid and forgot how, so not long ago, I searched on YouTube "how to play piano" and there is some great stuff. Sorry I can't remember anything more specific, but perhaps start there?

I learned through college courses. I dont play often anymore but its a neat skill to have, good for killing time, and can be challenging. Post here again if you find an app, would be good to know.

Apps will help you with tempo/metering.

Best way to learn Piano is with a physical device. That said, apps will help you with tempo/metering, as well as reading music.

Edit: Rockband for iOS is nice. Can be used with external keyboards. Pretty sure it's free with Apple devices.

Apps can be good, but I would still get some lessons or tutoring in. Apps can be great to teach you tempo among other things. What it's not so great at is teaching hand positioning, posture, etc. I would recommend a combination of both.

this is just IMHO

Been playing piano /guitar for the past 40 some years.

If you wanna learn you need to get a teacher.
no app in the world will give /teach you experience
and YT vids/ teach yourself vids are not bad but there not good

my daughter is 6, since she was born I have been teaching her.

other people may tell you otherwise. But here is my list of things

* a GOOD teacher
* Lots of practice
* an interest in all types of music
* Lots of practice
* A keen ear
* Lots of practice

Hope this helps and good luck

also there is a big difference between a Piano and a keyboard;
a real piano has a proper size keys and a real action
"some" keyboards are good,
but TBH, your keyboard should give the sound/feel as a real piano.

Learn on as GOOD an instrument that you can afford
If you decide it's not for you, you can always sell it

no-one wants a piece of junk (not saying what your getting is)

I learned at school on school Pianos (Steinway grand/yamaha uprights)
got a cheap no name, 40 year upright when I was 10
own a Pramberger upright now

Thank you. I fully agree.

It is a Roland digital piano with weighted keys, so hoping it's going to be okay.

When I have it setup, I'll post a video of my kids playing (when they get a little practice). Should be fun !
