I've used the Turo app, but for nothing extravagant; when my car's trans solenoids wore out, I got an '08 Jetta that I only got because it was the lowest-priced 5-seater stick shift I can find (I missed the novelty of a manual transmission and didn't want to be stuck in a soul-less CVT Nissan the rental agency was offering, nor do I want to sell my E90 and commute to Santa Monica... In a stick shift).

It's a good deal and does have a lot more safeguards, like the owner's car is covered up to $1M and you have to take before and after pics of the car (which I wish Enterprise did when they found a crack in the bumper I'm 200% sure I didn't cause and came after me for it ), but I'm glad you found something with unlimited mileage; those are actually fairly rare since even that Jetta had a 150 mile/day option.

Update:
Just picked up the Porsche 997 this morning (my first time using Turo). It went off without a hitch. The owner was super cool and met us at the airport. Fortunately it has AWD and he installed snow tires, because they were a life saver. We had to drive about 60 miles off the beaten path, through twisty snow covered mountain passes and it was phenomenal (the wife was a bit white knuckled though ha!).

We pulled off for a quick photoshoot way up on one of the passes...

We plan on taking her to Breck tomorrow and have her until Sunday. I'm officially sold. Can't wait to see what other bucket list cars I can find on there :-)

Sounds awesome!

Looking at some of the cars locally made me wonder how many people are now going to use this app to leverage their car buying.

"Well, I make $XXX when I rent my car out, therefore, I can get a car I cannot afford."

I saw some high dollar cars but when I looked at the background they were taken in front of an apartment complex that was not a nice one.

Prices are a bit inflated around here. Did see a nice 991 911S for like $200 a day. Waiting for a $300 GT3 or 991 Turbo.

Will definitely give this a go in spring or summer.

haha

That guys description is the same thing nearly verbatim from a 991 Turbo S here in So. Cal.

Before contacting me please have your profile updated with a current pic.
- Return the car in the same condition it was rented out.
- Never wipe the paint of the car with water and paper towels or chamois. It will scratch the car and you will have to pay for clear coat/paint. If the car is dirty and you don't have time to get it washed you're better off leaving the car as is.
- Absolutely NO SMOKING in the car, you will be charged $250.
- Absolutely NO PETS in the car.
- Premium gasoline only. Keep receipts.
- No track use or racing allowed whatsoever. Unusual wear and tear will be billed.
- CAR IS AFFIXED WITH GPS MONITORING AND TRACKS MILEAGE, SPEED, RPM’S AND SUDDEN STOPS. DRIVE RESPONSIBLY.

Except the So. Cal guy changes $300 for smoking.

I wonder if that's kind of a form template that they use on Turo. I know that if I rented my car on there, I'd have every monitoring/GPS tracking device known to man installed.
