Hmmm. So 2011 V6 mustang is faster than a Ferrari 458. Seems legit.

where does it say its a 6 cylinder? Article starts off by saying it is heavily modified. He could easily be at 600, 700 or more hp in a V8 mustang. a 458 is what - high 5's? Straight line speed is all about horsepower and a heavily modified GT is easily running a lot more horsepower than the ferrari.

Heavily modified could mean a lot of things. In this case, its a 2011 mustang GT with bolt ons and nitrous. So no, it is not capable of +200mph.

It's less about power in this case (even if putting out 700 hp) but more so that he doesn't have the gears to even approach that kind of speed. Not to mention Mustangs aren't exactly known for their aerodynamics. Sure you could brute force it (above videos), but something tells me this isn't one of those cases.

ahh - I didnt think about gearing. that could be an issue. lack of aerodynamics might be easier to overcome than downforce - a lot of arm chair quarterbacking going on without data. Drag strip guys usually gear down, not up, so gearing could definitely be insufficient to get there regardless of HP.

Didn't a recent version of the mustang claim a 200+ top speed but proved to be drag limited to 199 on testing?

A 2011 GT with a $7,000.00 bolt on supercharger puts down 735 hp on only 10 PSI of boost. and that's before nitrous, and a smaller pulley, etc, etc etc.

Here's the link: http://www.americanmuscle.com/vmp-st...er-1114gt.html

I know Mustang's are considered uncouth, but they can make huge power with bolt-ons. They are no joke.

As PZ619 said, the bigger limitation on top speed is probably gearing.

That's great and all, but that kid doesn't have a supercharger on his mustang.

you must have some inside information then as I haven't seen anything public beyond "heavily modified"

whatever info you have you should pass along to his lawyer. He will need all the help he can get!

Why are we assuming that it's a V6...or even a GT. This could very well be a heavily modified Cobra, twin turbo swap even. Canadian, TX is a shithole but there is a lot of old/oil money in the town...no telling what's what by the poorly written articles.

...or it's a broken radar gun...

I remember reading my camaro was good for something like 270mph in 6th gear at max rpm, mustang was something like 315. It's geared like that to keep it at 1500 rpm at 70mph for efficiency. You don't have the power to get there, but I'd bet that in 5th with enough power, your have a shot at breaking 200. There's a vid of some guy doing 200 in a STI, scary fast with that short wheelbase.

800hp is not unheard of for these, superchargers, etc...problem is these are usually drag limited, so the required horsepower to go faster goes up crazy fast.

No way it hit that speed on public roads unless was the autobahn. Comparing with drag-prepped cars on a flat strip is not exactly apples-to-apples, to say the least.
