What the scoop on BMW's Twin Turbo V8??

How far away from release is this engine?

Will it be for an //M or will it go in the regular 5 series? Will it debut in the E60 or will they hold it til the next body style?

I have a deposit down for an E92 M3 but if BMW comes out with a twin turbo V8.... well, that is going to be one kickazz V8 and I'll have regrets getting the //M3.

The shopping part is the fun part. Now I have something new to drool over and dream about...

I believe BMW hasn't released any official info on the new engine as of yet. All we know so far:

400bhp @ 5800-6250 (approx according to memory)
450lb-ft @ 1800-5200 (again according to memory)

The rpm range I listed might be off a hundred or two, but that's the basic gyst.

It won't come out in a 3 series so, you dont need to worry. It will take at least 5 years to 10 years.

I am sure, a tuner will do the engine swap....If a M5 V10 can fit in a 3series, they will certainly find a way to put a 4.4 v8 twin turbo in it

It's not going to go into any M models as it's not an M engine. It'll start replacing the NA 4.8 in the 5, 6, 7, X5. I'm pretty sure that the X5 will get it really soon after the X6, but it's not clear whether BMW is going to throw the engine into the 5, 6, and 7 now or wait until their next gen of those cars.

I'm sure this is their new v8 powerplant that goes across the board for all non-M's.

It's gonna take even longer than 10 years before it makes its way to a 3 series. If anything, the horsepower wars will have to come to an end eventually, what with gas prices and global issues, and BMW will probably just stick to modifying their inline 6.

Wow guys, thanks for the info. I went to bmwusa and read up on it... I had no idea the X6 was coming to dealers so soon... "2nd quarter 2008" !

There could be a CHANCE the TTV8 could be in the E60 for next model year.... I will keep my fingers crossed!!

Thank you BMW for stepping up and into the HP wars. These are good years to be an enthusiast.

They might put it in the 09 5er, but I think that'll wait till the redesign if anything. Doesn't hurt to wish though
