I would have done what you did. I commute from Trenton which is about as safe and beautiful as Camden. 4 times over the years I've had people try to open my doors when I was stopped Now I treat red lights as if they are stop signs and blow through them after I see it's clear. No anal rape for me in Trenton.

All i saw was a white car and headlights. When it passed though, i got to say, it wasn't a car you normally see around my neighborhood. Talk about red flags...early 2000's dodge sedan, black fender, chrome caps, and............................really dark windows.

In all seriousness, this wasnt really life threatening or anything like that. But context comes into play on this one as dudes will come around at random times to scope out houses. I did actually call the cops on this one asking them to patrol more.

As soon as I got the car out of the parking space I sped out of the car park, leaving the old woman stranded. I then drive straight to the nearest police station and reports the incident.

A police officer then searched the car and found an axe concealed under the driver's seat.

I had had a lucky escape!

Someone in a beater will "accidentally" rear-end you. You stop, put the car in park and get out to confront them - as you get out of the car, the buddy who is hiding in the bushes jumps in and takes off, or they jump you, take your keys and take off. Either way, end result is you lose your car.

Yep, big problem around here. Ive also heard of people putting a piece of paper or something on your rear window so when you get out, the thief quickly jumps in and takes off.

No matter what section you want to call it, it's all ghetto now. But it is one of the few places you can buy a grand old marble staircase mansion in NJ for under $100k. You just don't want to step foot outside.

2 rentals in Camden? And they didn't burn them down on mischief night???! You were very lucky, but I'm sure you have some great stories.

So in 2001 I bought 2 foreclosures for $20k. No joke. Collected about 4-5 months of rent. Period. Trouble from Day 1 despite government sponsorship. My tenants defined the term deadbeat. You won't believe the excuses. The worst was actually a Greek guy named "Junior" aka Frank.

Cut my losses and just wrote it off.

As far as Trentiiiiin, I goto the Advanced Auto and Aldis on Olden Avenue sometimes when I'm in town. Ain't THAT bad. But I hear Ya.
