I don't want to spend too much for a phone cuz t's just a phone but I'm planning on keeping it at least a year or two so I don't mind shelling out more if I really like it.

Thanks for the response.
I've had an s5 for 2 1/2 years and it has worked great. If you maintain your phone like a computer then it will work well. If you drop your phone all the time or drop it in the toilet like everyone seems to do then you will have problems.

Dude, I have one right now and it's the biggest piece of shit for messaging.

I had to send the phone back and ATT sent me a new one, still won't receive messages right, hell not even phone calls now. Shit is outrageous.

Ah damn man sorry for your bad luck. I have had no issues with mine. My only complaint is the back cover creaking when pressed and stuff but otherwise it's been sold. *Knock on wood* now though.

Nexus 5x. Unlocked phone, Pure Android, no bloatware, updates from google, ability to unlock bootloader, root etc. No brainer!

Funny all of the people recommending phones that haven't read even some of his main requirements. "Has to be Android"...

I would ask what size you would want? Phablets are too big for some, and 5" too small. It doesn't sound like you are too demanding, but want something that works. I would second teh sugestion for one of the two new Nexus phones, and both fit your stated requirements. The Nexus 6P for the 6" size and Nexus 5X for the more managable size. Both get great reviews and are first in line to get the most recent updates. Plus, zero bloatware. None, nada, zilch.

They are relatively cheap off-contract as well.

I really love the phone itself and the functionality of it, I'm just pissed about missing messages since it's my work phone also. Going to try a new sim card and if that doesn't work, I hope BB will hook me up because they've kept in touch about if any changes have fixed the problem.

I'll give them that, BB support has been pretty good compared to the Samsung that had issues.

My galaxy 6 edge is the coolest phone I've ever used, but the battery life leaves more to be desired. I'm a heavy user so I would assume I'd have this problem with most phones, but sometimes it just sits there and dies faster than when I'm even really using it. . . I think its a 4g/3g radio issue.

When I'm overseas it works absolutely fine, which is extremely weird, when its switching between 1x and 3g (I don't tend to get 4g much internationally). I think in the US you NEED 4g to use a lot of the apps now so it just hangs and F***s itself.

PS Verizon is my network, it could easily be software/bloatware on their end, as they have actually "removed" the 3g/4g switch toggle that is supposed to come on the phone. I don't need 4g unless I really want it, I'd rather it sat there in 3g and then woke up to 4g when I was using something data intensive, but the damn apps seemingly don't even work in 3g.

I like the size of my S3, fits great in pockets and I'm used to the fit of it in my hand. Heading to mall later tonight to check out some phones. As far as Tmobile goes, we have a family plan but not a contract I think. But $350 for a brand new phone and extra fifty for armor/protection is pretty cheap for a new phone nowadays.

Also, can someone explain what bloatware is in layman's terms?

Bloatware is carrier and device manufacturer added software, usually unable to turn off, uninstall or deactivate for things like the Samsung store apps or Verizon specific apps. The Nexus devices have a pristine and usually speedier operation due to none of that junk being present. Choose what you want for apps, rather than having it forced upon you.

LG G4 gets my vote if you want a removeable battery and expandable memory. If those things dont matter to you, the S6 is a nice phone as well.

The G4 has stood up to much more abuse than my Samsungs ever did. Havent had a case on it or screen protector and after 100s of drops and hits and smashes, the screen has just finally cracked in the corner, but it is almost unnoticeable. My S5 broke within the 1st month of having it and my work Iphone 6 broke when i looked at it wrong within the 1st week.

Good choice, especially now that they are priced more reasonably. (Originally debuted at $379/$429 for 16/32GB, a bit overpriced).

The Samsung S5 and Note 4 work really well in my car. can even read emails etc ... all via bluetooth.
I prefer this, to plugging the phone in and out each time via the snap in adapter or usb port.

It's too expensive but I just got my hands on a Blackberry Priv. Dear lordy me, THIS is a phone. Runs Android but with Blackberries utterly brilliant HUB that controls all your communications (email, texts, etc etc etc) plus it has REAL keys and a full size screen a sit is a slide phone.

Brilliant but $$$.
