The e39 was probably the greatest all round street car of the 20th Century. I still miss my 540i six speed sport. Honestly it did everything well.

I think it's just personal preference. While no doubt the newer BMWs are great vehicles, they appeal to me about as much as owning a new Mazda. I'm serious, they do nothing for me. I'd rather drive my Z4M until it turns to dust, then find another one in decent shape and do the process all over again. It's an amazing machine (last of the true ///M cars if you ask me), and as long as it keeps running well I'm saving hordes of money over buying a newer model.
