I was an attorney at a top 100 law firm for years and wore short sleeves everyday, so did most of the other attorneys. When a client came in, we of course wore long sleeves or put on a blazer. I work at a boutique firm now and there are guys walking around in jeans and tennis shoes.
By business did you mean finance? |

Depends on who's wearing it. Some people pull it off, some people don't.

Read the OP started to make my blood boil while I thought about it.
No, just...no. Maybe a polo, but don't do a short sleeve and tie - it looks terrible no matter what. |

Wow, some serious emotional responses here. Didn't know short sleeve shirts were so controversial.
And yes, by "business" I was referring to banking, trading, finance, etc. Wall Street stuff. The high end suit and tie crowd. Since it's now obvious that ties with a short sleeve shirt can evoke anger and disgust in some folks, I won't go there lest I start a riot here on campus. Or worse, a sit in.

I think very few people can pull it off. I think it's either very hipster, or very old man. However, just do what you like!

I would personally never work in an environment where business attire was expected at all times. I'm too damned big, and I get too damned hot to wear all that shit in the warmer months. Even during the winter I have a fan in my office while wearing polo shirts, I'm a hot box. My home business has been doing well lately though, I'm hoping to go 100% work from home soon and then it's shorts and t-shirts every day baby. |

Reminds me of that time I went shopping for an upcoming high school dance. Orange painter pants, convinced mom to buy me an Izod polo, then I asked where the ties were. The guy at the store almost peed his pants he was laughing so hard, but only about the tie.
I'm IT also, but any time anyone sees me in a tie they worry I have a job interview somewhere else. |

Short sleeves alone is good, but it is little harder to pull it off with tie on.
I might do it on 1. 100+F day on Casual Friday (if I ever decide to work at a corporate setting again). 2. Visit a factory/lab/assembly line area. 3. At a wedding.
