Garage stuff? Tools and fun help
What is a good place to look to outfit my garage? Anyone have pics of their "normal" person garages setup? Want to make my little spot a place that is more than where my car sleeps, and start doing some home work on it and mods.
I am a web developer now, but was actually a mechanic for Toyota for years before being diagnosed with muscular dystrophy. Like a dumbass, I sold all my tools... So, what does your garage look like?! Never worked on a BMW before, what are must have tools, anything that is the must have to tinker and mod with? Example, every Toyota can be disassembled with an 8mm socket and 19mm wrench Who makes good quality jacks (and stands) for lifting my 335? Help me get back to wrenching a bit, thanks! |

Metric up to 22mm (sockets and wrenches), Torx, Inverted Torx, extensions and swivel joints, 3/8 & 1/2 ratchets, 1/2 breaker bar, 3/8 low torque wrench, 1/2 higher torque wrench, 3/8-1/2 adapter, 1/2-3/8 adapter, metric allen keys, 22mm crowfoot, 8mm hex socket, spindle spreader, manual oil transfer pump, and plenty of PB blaster.
I use pieces of wood to adapt the jack pads to my jack stands. Don't use anything fancy, same blue whatevers that I got years ago from a local store. Race Ramps would probably make some things a lot easier.

Awesome help thanks!
I am so looking forward to working on a car again, even if it is just put-putting around the garage for a few mods for now. |

Any special tools I need to replace springs? Other than a spring compressor, and where is a good place to get one?

I highly recommend checking out Garage Journal. You can spend days and days looking through all of the users' build threads.
Also, we have a small thread here in the F8X section: http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1038386 |

So who makes decent tools now days? I have been out of industry for just over 10 years now. At that time I had Snap-on stuff, but yeah sold that off and Craftsman was at least made in the US... Where should I look to build up a decent set of reliable tools? |

Regarding tools, what do you guys use for pulling wheels? Are standard 1/2" impact guns ok to use? I saw someone somewhere saying "no only use breaker bars!"...
What brand torque wrenches do you use and trust? |
