Maybe it's the other way around? Maybe M135i/M235i just play a pre-recorded synthesized sound via the hi-fi speakers, which can be later coded to mimic the s55 engine noise? This does not mean they share the same " active sound" systems.

If you read the thread, you can code to about 10 different engine sounds.

lol. what a joke.
i want my car to sound the way my car sounds......the end. the plot has been lost, apparently. i don't need microphones, active sound, modified sound, or whatever else is needed to infuse enthusiasm into these cars. The cars should be built with enough enthusiasm already! |

Exactly! If you can code one, you can code 50. But what I'm saying is, the mere fact that it can be coded on the M235i to mimic the sound of the F80, is not confirmation that the f80 uses the same augmented sound technique. It seems that the coding involves a bunch of pre-recorded audio files. Not sure if I'm explaining my point clear enough.

Uhm, conversion of mechanical sound to electronic sound (that is digitally signal processed and played through audio speakers) is artificial sound generation. Regardless, I feel for the auto manufacturers (not just BMW) that need to resort to this trickery. Consumers want muscular sounding cars, but can't get them because noise/emission/mileage regulations have neutered what manufacturers can offer. This is the future; get used to it. |
