TT / VW GTI / 135 comparison by Auto Express..

http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/carrevi...ivals.html#top

135 places 3 out of 3. "Drivers car" indeed. It is surprising to see that the GTI beat it, but the MK2 TT is an absolutely phenomenal machine.

I wonder what they mean about the chassis part. If they mean that it's too twitchy, that's a personal taste thing, but if they mean that it's just not that good, that's bad. They aren't really clear on that part.

Damn, I guess the chassis is how they keep the differentiation between the 135 and the 335.

Similar to how the new welded diff is how they keep the 335i from having an LSD. That's too bad b/c the chassis is one of the reasons the 335i is so damn fast on track.

Lucky for those people who got away with it from Sept 06 to the end of Jan 07

I was expecting the TT to win, but the GTI really surprised me. I have an ex-girlfriend who dirves one and I wasn't at all impressed. It feels a lot less fun to drive than its predecessor, although maybe the added refinement was just what it needed to go after high-end competition.

Anyone seen the rear exhaust on an R32? Stunning

I was surpised by the GTI's placement in the comparison, too. However, my wife has an '07 GTI w/DSG, and I often find it more fun to drive than my 335. Like the 335, I think the GTI is a terrific package for the money. The only things that I don't like about the GTI are that it exhibits noticeable turbo lag compared to the 335, and the front end can get pretty frisky when launching moderately hard from a stop. I can't wait until my wife lets me get coilovers and an ECU flash for it.

suprising espically because you cant get a stick on the R32 and they think its more of a drivers car? Maybe because this was in europe they had a stick R32. The TT is nice but a 4cyl turbo (that you can get in a 21k VW) for that kind of money is not too impressive but it is the looker of the group.

Depends on what you want.

They already mentioned sportyness goes to the 135i.

Personally, I would much rather take a 135i then an overweight and underpowered TT.

I think you might need to do a bit more reading. The MK2 TT is LIGHTER than its predecessor by quite a lot. A 6MT 2.0T TT weighs just short of 2900 lbs. Makes the 135 look like a pig

The fwd TT is a better drive than the TT with Quattro.
