The autos are the ones setting all of the current 1/4 mile records for the '15 so far, so it's an apples-to-apples issue given the video we've got here. On average, the S550 GTs are hitting the 1/4 in the same amount of time as the S197 GTs while trapping anywhere from 1-3mph faster, so long as transmissions are kept similar. You could infer that the weight is hampering initial speed from the launch while it pulls harder as the cars continue accelerating.

But that's a straighline contest. Throw a real world corner into the mix, start introducing bolt-ons, etc. The gap is going to widen.

It's going to be hard to beat an F8X in a straight line; those things are complete monsters. Underrated outputs, thick-ass power curves, amazing transmission, much lighter than direct competition (and indirect like the Mustang), etc. I think the upcoming GT350 will give it a run for its money in a straight line but the M twins set a high bar. I'm more interested in seeing how these things work around a circuit. That's where the GT350 should tear a new one. Even a lightly modded GT should do well to keep up with an M4 if the Willow Spring comparison is worth anything. Give the GT the same compounds as the M4 (PSSs), hope that someone comes out with a competent and aggressive suspension kit, maybe an intake and exhaust... it would be really close and those mods would be penny change to do.
Pretty darn sure the GT350 will destroy the M3/4 in straight line if the quotes of 600hp are real.

There isn't a single remotely reliable source telling us what the output's going to be like. We also don't know how much it'll weigh.

Sure we do. Wait until Ford gives the estimate, and add ~250 lbs to that.

Joking aside, I cant wait to see it. It's gonna be a monster.

Weren't F30 335i's slightly slower than E90 335i's? Wasn't the N55 slightly slower than the N54? People acting all shocked about this sure have a short memory.

Ford never gave a weigh estimate on the 2015. That was all crap made up from reporters.

The 335 are not BMW's iconic car. Mustangs are the only real performance car ford offers.

Meh, the GT350 will fix any worries people have. The regular GT still offers more than enough performance to make most of its drivers look stupid.

The gt350 is a track car. It's not going to be bought by many people. The gt500 is the car people will want

That's the old body. The new high performance road model will supposedly take the GT350 name.

There's gotta be at least two more performance models coming. The video from the Nurburgring shows two completely different cars IMO.

lets be honest straight line speed matters a lot.
Sure it does, but from the numbers we've seen so far, the S550 GT is on average hitting the quarter just a tenth or two behind and trapping several MPH higher than a comparable S197 GT. For anyone that's concerned with a metric involving a turned steering wheel and braking, the S550 romps the outgoing S197. And that's on a smooth track surface. Throw in real world irregularities and there isn't a contest. Plus the interior alone is worth the weight pay-off IMO.

The GT350 is supposedly the BOSS's spiritual successor, with the GT350R being relegated to track duty purposes. Those two different cars are probably the GT350 and R.

Remember that nothing's confirmed at this point. Not a single stat. Teasers and spy vids are showing PSS rubber with series information, but that's about all we have to go by for now. We don't have confirmed nameplates nor do we know how many there will be and how they fall in the performance hierarchy.

Oh I dunno, the Focus/Fiesta ST & RS are seriously no slouch.

Agree on the 335 comment.

Just pointing it out. Didn't realize "real performance car" was limited to the brands flagship.
