There's a reason for that. The Exige is designed for downforce, not simply low drag (and lift). It's a car for going around bends, fast. Not at all a straight line car

The original Exige has MASSIVE downforce for example.

Mine:

My S2 hit an aerodynamic wall at around 125mph. The later S260 had a much easier time, but the 190hp Toyota (Yamaha) lump was no match for the aerodynamics in the search for straight line speed.

Not that you would have heard it anyway with the engine 10" from your head, but the stereo on the Lotus was far and away the worst of any car I owned.
