GM is quite simply the worst car company on the face of the planet. There isn't a snowball's chance in Haiti I'd ever buy anything produced by GM.

Hey, it's all for minor stuff. Ignition switches that kill the motor and air bags. Brake lights on when your foot is off the pedal, off when it's on the pedal, defective seat belts. I mean, what's the worst that could happen?

This is just GM saving face by recalling everything and anything after the cover up of the ignition switch.

Toyota did the same thing after the SUA debacle.

^ True. They're just getting a bunch out of the way at once to stay out of the spotlight.

And recalls are certainly nothing unique to GM. Google News any car name and "recall" and there's tons.

Just in the past few years BMW has recalled vehicles because:

• Child locks don't work and kids can open the car from inside. 6,400 cars

• Camshaft/VANOS bolts break causing engine stalling. 489,000 cars

• Power brake assist failing. 176,000 cars.

• Airbag failure. 76,000 cars.

• Loss of battery power and vehicle fire. 1,540 cars

• Battery cable failure leading to engine stalling or fire. 750,000 cars

• Another battery cable failure. Engine staling and fire. 1.3 million cars.

And it's pretty much the same for every car company out there.

It's all about how a company handles it is that matters. Of course GM gets an F for the ignition switch.

^I agree. The ignition recall was mishandled. But having a bunch of safety related recalls is nothing unusual. Hell, even the almighty Porsche made a measly 750 GT3s before they learned they were massively faulty.

Thats very true recalls are somewhat common for all manufacturers but... 5 million in 1 week? i don't think so

BMW had 1.3 million at once in 2012

Toyota had 6.6 million at once in 2010

Ford had 14 million at once in 2009

Again, I'm certainly not defending GM, but the highly publicized ignition switch recall now brings everyone's attention to GM recalls, most of which are almost routine for the industry.

GM has also made more cars than any other company in history, so it kind of stands to reason they would have the highest pure numbers of recalls.

15 MILLION recalls this year. They better sell lots of cars. The cost of coffee for waiting service customers will be more than Porsche replacing 750 GT3's.
