Request for US friend 911 vs 6-series

Hi guys,

I need help. I am in Canada and need help because a friend was asking and I don't know much about US pricing etc.

So here's a story - a female friend wants to buy a used car for around US$50,000 and is thinking 911 vs. 6-series. I do recall that the 997.1 had engine issues.

If your female friend wanted to spend 50 K on a used car - would you suggest a 911 or 6-series?

Thank you.

I would go for the 997, assuming she is looking at the previous generation 6 series. The old 6er's are far from pretty.

I'd get a f12 640i with less then 20k miles over a 997.1 with around 50k miles. Just my opinion as both can be had for under 60k and at least one has a warranty. Now if she's considering a used m6 over a really used gt3 I'd go for the Porsche.

I'd get a 911. I thought about getting my wife a 650i but although it looks the donkey's, it slow and about as nimble as a boat.

A 911 and a 6 series are completely different types of cars.

Ask her to consider a used R8. It's kind of a grand-touring type vehicle (similar to the 6 series) and is therefore practical as a daily driver. It's also the most exotic-looking car you can get for around $120k (new). I don't know what used R8s go for these days.

Thanks for the input. She's not into horsepower etc. I suspect she will be most happy with a base Carrera. I was going to suggest that for her - but I have heard that a 997.1 may not be best.

Opinions regarding a 997.1?

I'm going to head to the US Porsche website and look at used 911s. I also chaco out the R8. I suspect that may be over her budget.

Looks like she can get a base Carrera 997.1 for around 50K. Then 997.2 is around 60 K. The Audi is way higher....

She can get a 2010 650i for 50K.

New question: 2010 650i vs 997.1 base Carrera?

Carrera, 2010 650i is ugly and a giant boat. unless she is up in the years the Carrera will fit and feel better.

$50k? Tell her to lease a new 911 or 640i. I'd rather not hear a girl on here complain about maintenance and repair costs of a car that expensive since it is out of warranty. Or tell her to buy a new 4 series outright.

I know everyone wants to look cool driving a car like that but most people have no idea what they're getting into when they buy something used. Then they go on and bash these name brands because they think it will be cheap to own like a Toyota.

That makes a lot of sense. I do not think she has thought of upkeep and maintenance - & truthfully neither had I because I do not worry about maintenance since I already have a Range Rover. Love it but the maintenance is fun!!

I will suggest a 4-series as you suggest. Makes a lot of sense. Thank you for the advice.
