eBay Question

So I need done help guys. Try to make this short. Sold a set of golf irons on eBay. Guy pays, asks me for tracking, I ship them and send him number. Then he sends me message today saying he is sorry to tell me he actually needed a 3-pw, not a 4-uw like I sold. That its his fault and he will be sending them right back for refund.

I said I don't issue refunds and that money was spent, which it was. It says online that if seller doesn't offer refunds and you just changed your mind, you're not covered. He said if he finds just one scuff on them he's returning them. But I listed them as used for a year.

Also, really petty, I told him before all this that I'm sorry I didn't get to clean them up super nice before I shipped. Now he's saying that since that wasn't listed, he's returning him.

Does he have any ground to stand on? Or am I covered, considering I have his message telling me it's his fault and he changed his mind? Thoughts?

Thanks.

Sellers get screwed. He will be able to retrench them regardless of what your listing says.

Should I tell him I can't issue refund until I sell them again?

On one hand it's his responsibility because he bought the wrong thing and you had yours accurately described. On the other hand, eBay pretty much always sides with the buyer.

I think if you have the messages you'll be fine. If I were you I'd get in contact with ebay already and let them know whats going on. You haven't done something wrong, so if he doesn't want it he can now go through the troubles of selling it. Good luck.

Save the messages and tell him to go kick rocks.

Thanks guys. That's what I figured. His message pretty much admits fault. I went ahead and noted it on eBay before anything. I just told him if you want a 3 iron, buy one separately.

I have 100% feedback on everything, so I'm really hoping I get backed on this.

Be prepared to get some retaliatory negative feedback. I'm a power seller, only one negative feedback and it was from a guy who got pissed off when I left him a neg. eBay has a real problem with it.

Good luck! You did the right thing.

Thanks. If he leaves negative feedback, fine. If that's the last item I sell there, fine. But isn't there a way to comment on that negative feedback to explain?

You can reply to it and explain but it will still show as a neg. Any reasonable person will read your explanation and understand though.

"Hey.. Sorry to let you know this but When I receive these clubs, I may have to send these back to you. I needed 3 thru P not 4 thru U wedge. I was my fault, but I still have to send these back to you. So when I get them, I will turn around and send back to you for a refund. Is this ok with you?"

This is what he wrote after I said no.

"I guess you haven't been an eBay seller long. Everything is refundable on eBay though buyer protection. You always hold the money for 14 days after customer receives product. That is ebays policy. Search it out for yourself. I suggest you get that money back cause the clubs are coming back to you."

Then I copied the message off eBay about issues not being permitted for changing your mind.

"You better hope you described everything exact and did not leave any information out If there is one scuff mark found on those clubs that wasn't described, they are coming back to you."

And the petty cleaning comment.

"You didn't say on your post that the clubs were not cleaned. You didn't tell me that until after the transaction was completed. That was a detail left out.... So item was not listed correctly. Oh well...."
