Garage Floor Epoxy
Anyone have a product that worked well for them?
I'm looking at the Rustoleum Garage Epoxy to paint my garage floor next spring. Any feedback is appreciated.

I just sealed my garage with the same stuff. I chose the clear coat with a stain instead of a colored sealant. I also went with the epoxy-based version instead of the water-based.
As everyone will tell you, good floor prep before sealing is the key to a good application. My house was just built so I didn't have any oil stains, but there was a lot of debris on/in the surface that needed to be scrubbed away with the acid etch solution. Be sure to use some anti-skid in the mixture as well or the surface will be very slippery when it's wet. If you're adding the anti-skid to the clear coat you have to mix it in the bucket and the paint tray CONSTANTLY or it all settles to the bottom and doesn't get applied. I actually had to do a second coat on one section of my garage where we forgot to stir it and there wasn't enough anti-skid applied. This is the only picture I really have so far of the finished floor. The bad lighting makes it look brown, but it's darker as I used the charcoal gray stain. But you can kinda see how nice the shiny finish is on the floor with the shadows.

Thanks for the tip with the anti-skid. New York winters bring snow/water into the garage, so that's a definite need.

I really like how yours turned out. In my previous place, I used a colored Rustoleum epoxy with the decorative chips added to act as an anti-skid. It looked great when done, but unfortunately after a year it began peeling up where the tires make contact. I think if I had applied a clear coat sealant over it I would not have run into that issue. I'll probably go the route you did if I end up doing it at my current place. Floor prep is also key like you said. My previous place had some serious oil/sludge stains to deal with which was a complete nightmare. I spent far more time on the prep than on the actual application.

I redid my garage this summer with racedeck tiles. I highly recommended them. Only complaint is they can get a bit slippy as per bear

Not a fan of the race deck. You have to be cautious when turning the wheels too much or else it'll break apart. Slippery. Creates static as you walk on it when it's dry.
I've used the rustoleum kit from Home Depot with good results |

I did the Rustoleum one from home depot. Worked freaking awesome. Went on real easy and now my brand new concrete floor is protected. This is the only pic I have.

I did the Rustoleum as well. Looks great, goes only pretty easily, but you must must must must do the anti-skid if you live in a climate where you drive in rain/snow, etc.
I didn't do it and it is so fucking slippery when it's wet. My wife actually fell last week (with our 5 month old in her arms) when we came home after driving in the rain. Took one step out of the car and bOOm.. on the ground. Baby was scared, but she had the presence of mind to raise him up as she was falling so he wouldn't hit the ground. She wasn't so lucky however and took the full force of the fall on both of her knees... Luckily nothing was broken/torn, but she still can't walk and her knees/shins look like someone beat the crap out of them with a baseball bat. |
