there are 2 kinds of people that will spend 75k on a watch.......timepiece connoisseurs and rap artists.....problem is the first one might put the watch away as a showpiece....the latter is going to cover it in diamonds.

i think its time they stop making special versions of the watch and revamp it a little....maybe make it larger in size

for $75k, in platinum with a platinum bracelet i think you get more for your money out of that than you do from PP, AP, A lange, VC etc.

easier to monetize a second hand rolex than the others if it comes to it too.

only mega-foo-foo dudes go with PP or VC and you dont get a heck of a lot for $20k - $30k from AP even... not sure what they have in this range but it's probably quite big and gaudy. Same with Hublot.

No one really cares about Rolex anymore around here. 6-7 years ago, Breitlings were all the rage, then they died out and everyone and their mom was wearing a Panerai. Since that has been fading, everyone has switched to AP.

It's just a game of who's wearing what before who.

LOL!
Yes, I keep forgetting to some watches are a trendy thing.

BTW: I just got a Panerai 111 for a completely different look. I already have three different leather bands ordered for it.

Really?? I never realised people had got that shallow, surely it does'nt matter what watch you have Rolex, Breitling or any other? As for wearing it first, we all left school a long time ago!! ( Well I did...)

Everyone and their mom has a 111 around here, myself included. I also got it because frankly they're beautiful, and at the time (2009) they were a little more rare. I would see maybe 1 or 2 a week tops back then. Now, it's at least once a day.

I haven't worn it for weeks, but my girlfriend likes to wear it from time to time.

SF is completely different from where I live (suburbs of Philly). I haven't seen another Panerai since I've gotten mine LOL!

Hang on to the 111 though. Panerai will be making it an automatic soon so the manual wind will be gone.

How did it feel? Was it as heavy as a tank?

As far as watch trends go, SF must be years behind... The Breitling craze was through the 90's and early 2000's. Panerai from 2002-2010. AP fad started about 2008 when rappers started ruining it. It's when they start to get popular, that the rage ends for early buyers. Rolex keeps popping up between all of those but is at least they're consistent in their following.

I'm glad I don't follow those fads and wear what I like. For the record, I bought my first Breitling in 1995 and my first PAM 125 in 2004 only because I couldn't find one stateside.

It was quite heavy compared to my stainless steel Daytona. But precious metals in a watch is not a smart financial decision.

As for Rolex not being popular, I disagree. Rolex is bigger than ever, but even more surprising that it's the Presidential getting wrist time in music videos and on some celebrity wrists.

+1

I couldn't believe how heavy the 50th Anniversary Daytona was. Incredible how much of a weight difference it was from my SS Daytona.

The Platinum band and main body are a ton. Prob 20-30% heavier than the SST they use.

I agree on the precious metals but sooner or later there is a white gold Daytona coming my way.
