Selling internationally on Ebay?
Hi is it 100% safe to sale something internationally on Ebay through Paypal? I've heard horror stories such as after you shipped item, the buyer makes a paypal dispute and then seller requests the buyer to ship the item back, but it comes back with an empty box..
Any Ebay guru here can let me know how to sell internationally without getting scammed? What are some things that I must need...etc.? Thanks much. |

Online auction type selling is really a buyer's paradise. Most of the time, the websites will cover the buyer and not the seller.
It's your responsibility to make your terms very specific as to exactly what you want. Keep records of everything you do, and make sure to check thoroughly before you commit to sell it to someone. For example, I'd be very worried to sell to someone on eBay with no ratings, who just joined a month ago, etc... You make the terms of the sale, so be specific.

Do Not Sell International.
The problem is that many countries don't have the equipment to scan and confirm that the item was delivered. My friends live in Russia and Uzbekistan. I ship packages almost every month and when they receive the packages, my delivery confirmation shows as "processed" but doesn't say that it was delivered and signed. There are carriers in the U.S that ship the packages overseas. They do all the work for you, including the confirmation of delivery etc..

Oh and also, try not to send anything expensive via USPS.
I recently ordered 3 brand new iphones and requested a signature confirmation. She left the packages under my table without getting my signature. Be careful with ebay and PayPal

I once sold a car ('71 Stang) on eBay internationally (Sweden) and have nothing but good things to say about the experience. After 15 days of calls and e-mails I got a good feeling for the buyer and he got a good feeling for me - we left Paypal completely out of the equation. Funds went directly into my acct. At the time, my thought was that if the buyer is willing to transfer funds directly and bypass Paypal, then he's probably not one to muck about when it came time for delivery. In other words, the risk was on his side. Plus, the shipping company that he picked was able to document the condition/quality of the car, that documentation was sent to the buyer before the car even left my driveway. So if any issues did come up upon delivery the onus would fall on the shipping company.
I don't know, maybe I got lucky. And you are probably not dealing with selling/buying cars, but just thought I would share my experience so you can make a more informed decision. Cheers, t
