Back in my pseudo auto mechanic days, I used to head out to the junk yard with friends for parts, and we'd always stumble on some unused airbags, so we'd take them and buy them for like $5.00 a piece.

Then on July 4th, we'd set them off by connecting them to a portable battery and a really long wire

Hey what can I say? Cool fireworks are illegal here in PA. But yeah, the airbags we set off during the "airbag parties" really kind of pop a lot faster than in the video.

Might it be more sensative since the guy just slammed on the brakes? Maybe because of the emergency stop, the car "armed" it's system anticipating impact, and it deploys the air bag at first sign of collision? Kinda like our brake system closing down when you lift off the gas suddenly.
