Best video editing software for .mov and .mp4 files?
Title says it all.
My digital camera records in .mov files My go-pro records in .mp4 The only current software I have is Windows Movie Maker. I know, I know, I have a hunch most of you will say that Windows Movie Maker sucks, but for tech retards like me, it is easy to use. The problem is, windows movie maker will not edit .mov and .mp4 files. In the past I've just converted the .mov and .mp4 files to wmv files, but this causes a loss in quality. It is also time consuming and a huge pain in the ass. Can anyone recommend a video editing software that will edit .mov and .mp4 files AND (most importantly) is as easy to use as Windows Movie Maker? Any help is appreciated.

Nothings going to be as easy as WMM, its going to take some adjusting regardless where you go with editing. For windows I'd recommend Sony Vegas, I found it easier to learn/use than Adobe Premier. If you can get your hands on a Mac, one that isn't slow, Final Cut Pro is the way to go, easier to use than everything available that isn't as basic as WMM or iMovie. Advanced editing software should have no issue importing and utilizing .mp4 and .mov formats.
edit: missed the as easy as WMM bit.... I still believe you should be able to give Vegas a fair shot! |

I also did some searches and it looks like this issue isn't as big of a deal for later windows versions.

Better than vista haha..
I'm fairly positive that XP limits the amount of cores available for processing, huge disadvantage for editing as it wants to use as much as possible to do as much as it can! I ran Vegas on windows XP on my high school laptop back when I first learned it like 6 years ago, was interesting haha |

I use Vegas. I have a tricaster and the output is .mov. Vegas does not need to do any conversion and can handle it natively for making blurays. Vegas is $600 though.
