But I dunno, my neighbor called me today because my birds were to noisy and I forgot to close the window.
It's not just about driving fast, but driving fast down a RESIDENTIAL street. It's one thing to be driving 15+ over the limit on other city streets and highways, though with residential streets it is definitely not OK. I suppose all neighborhoods differ, but the street I grew up on was narrow, lined with parked cars, and there were kids always outside playing in the yards. Little kids obviously don't know the consequences of their actions, so it is not uncommon to see them run out into the street chasing after a ball, pet, or another kid regardless of supervision. If I recall, the speed limit was 20 or 25mph, so driving 15+ mph would be noticeable and reckless given the environment.

I get the feeling some of the people posting in this thread don't actually own a home in a residential area. I don't care if the road is as straight as John Wayne sitting on a horse with a naked lady sitting in front of him, 45 MPH down a residential street is too f*cking fast.

Unless you drive a car that can stop in a 1 foot distance when someone's kid chases their ball onto the street suddenly, then slow down.

Model citizens.

No, I know what it is there for, I also know that most likely than not, these speed limits are set based on the crappiest cars they could find (worst brake distance and handling).
It's not about going 1mph over the speed limit, it's about going that fast on a residential street where kids could be playing.

It's also about reaction time. At 45mph, you're traveling 66 feet per second. On an average tract lot, that's about 1 house every 1 to 1.5 seconds. That presents a lot of opportunity for risk.

Slow the f*ck down speed racer.

All residential streets around here are 20mph which i generally obey. Rarely if ever get to 30mph. Most of the time i'm rolling at 20. One time with my last M3 i was running a loud exhaust and was in 2nd gear doing the limit. There was a guy watering his garden and decided that because my engine was loud and at higher RPMs at the time that i was speeding. he decided to punish me by spaying my car with his hose as i drove by.

You can imagine how happy i was about this since my windows were down and sunroof was open. I of course stopped to have words with this man. He explained that i was speeding, i explained that he was mistaken. He actually needed a ride in the car to understand that the sound doesn't always = speed.

Nobody wants to mind their own business and be responsible for themselves. You can only expect more of this from our society in the future.

I think the letter is a good idea, if he doesn't listen, tell the cops at around what time, and hope to catch him every time. If your going to speed, speed on a known road that you can consider safe if you know what your doing, residential is too much, innocent lives can get taken because you want to act dumb.

I'd probably just mind my own business. If you have kids, this is a good time to teach them not to play in the street.

It's not like kids even play in the street anymore these days. They're spending every waking moment on some kind of screen. I was thinking the other day about how sad it is that I don't see kids playing football and shit anymore. And no, I'm not an old man.

I remember the time me and my "Sandlot" crew took off on our bikes and rode probably 20+ miles to visit my grandma who lived several towns over. Never made it. I took a wrong turn and we ended up coming back home. I think we were 10 or 11.
