Watched Django Unchained in 4k last week and I didn't notice any difference. Not worth it.

On what media are these 4k movies and programming coming on? If I did my math correctly, you're going to need 16x more space to hold a movie in 4k vs. 1080

You already have a 4k tv?

I don't think Django is one of the 10 movies available in 4k?

Nope, watched it in 4k in cinema. Even got a mail 3 days later asking how I liked their first 4k screening ever.

"Cinematographic process
Digital Intermediate (4K) (master format)
Panavision (anamorphic) (source format)"

1080P is going to be around for a while. Not worth it for 4k right now. Most DirecTV channels are not even at 1080p yet. I would think the same goes for most cable providers.

+1

There is very few programming that is even in true 1080p. Most of the "HD" programming available via cable/dish is highly compressed 780i video that isn't even comparable to regular DVD quality, never mind Bluray.

It will take some time before cable/dish can catch up to Bluray quality.

As other's have said, you will probably need a display much larger than 60" to truly appreciate 4K over 1080p.

the 4K TVs are going to be like having the HD TV was 10 yrs ago. I knew people who when out and paid thousands for the original HD tv brought them home and hook them to cable or such and on watch standard Def tv since no HD content was even available at the time. These say people use to argue how much better the picture was on their HD over a regular TV. The only thing better was it was just bigger.

4K is going to be the same way for the next 10 yrs since no broadcaster or Cable/Satellite operator has any near future plans to support 4K. It is also like 3D is today, hardly any content being broadcast in 3D. It is all over blown at this point.

The REDRAY PLAYER is the first plug-and-play friendly device capable of providing 4K content to 4K displays. REDRAY features the ability to play 4K files as well as upscale HD files to Ultra High-Definition resolution (4096×2160). REDRAY connects to 4K displays using 1x 1.4 HDMI output or 4x HDMI 1.3 outputs, with an additional HDMI output for 7.1 channel audio (for HD displays, REDRAY uses 1x HDMI 1.3 output). REDRAY also supports 3D playback at high frame rates (48-60fps) — more than twice that of traditional HD plug-and-play 3D devices. Use your REDRAY iPad app or included IR remote to control your REDRAY and connect to your content like never before.

To convert your HD or 4K content to REDRAY compatible .RED files, REDCINE-X PRO and the RRENCODE plugin are required. 1x RRENCODE license is included with each REDRAY purchase.

I have a 60 Elite & a 50 Kuro that has Elite board in it. Still amazed by the picture quality. Have no plans on replacing them either.

Yep, i have the 101fd. Just incredible how the blacks look so inky, and the PQ is better than anything i have seen in the market. The sharp elite's are nice but i prefer plasma over LCD due to the motion being better in plasma imo

Agreed, I ave one as well and also a D8000 Samsung...D8000 has a slight edge over it but not by much. I wouldn't spend $25,000 on a TV but have spent way more than that on my audio system for my home theater lol!

Plasma has a much better black level also, and the CMS is much better on a palm IMHO.

So a 4K (I hear it will officially be called UHD - Ultra High Def) TV being introduced at $25k seems reasonable to me. Gotta pay to be the first kid in town with the newest toys.

The first consumer DVD players used to be over $2k and the first consumer DVD recorders used to be $10k and so on... like all new technology, it will eventually come down in price once it becomes mass produced.
