Is $4000 enough?
Planning a trip to maui and was wondering if $4000 is enough for a week for two. Flight for 2 and hotel for the week cost about $2000. So is $2000 enough for food and 2-3 activities for the week? Should i budget more...?

Yea i think 2 grand should be enough. I went two years ago and budgeted the same amount for 2 weeks. We ate out almost every night, had a nice dinner at Mama's, went zip lining, whale watching, snorkeling, did the bike trip down the volcano, and rented atv's. I came home with some $$ in my pocket.

Are you renting a car? Lots of fun stuff is basically free if you can get yourself there. My wife and I did a ton of shore diving in Maui, (not fantastic if you are a very experienced diver, but fun if you are used to Monterey Bay), tanks a cheap to rent and fill. You can pick up a book and find good dive/snorkel sites all around the island. Then you have the hiking and all the other stuff to do. Just have a couple of drinks in your room before you go out at night, that is what gets pricey. |

We mainly just want to relax, sightsee, and do a few activities. I picked up the book maui revealed by andrew dougherty (did the same for the big island) and have been reading it. Snorkeling, ziplining, jet skiing and learning to surf would be things that we would like to do. Of course we would do the drive to Hana as well. We basically just want to eat and relax and have fun.

$2000 is enough. Been to maui several times and it wasn't that expensive. If you're going to snorkel, i'd buy some snorkel gear at costco or something and bring them with you.
If you're staying at a place with a kitchen, there's a costco next to the airport and they have fresh fish and items that are local to HI only. I always go there and pick up some ahi or poke and breakfast stuff. kanapali shores i believe is where most of the tourists stay. |

I keep hearing that Maui is so expensive that im wondering if it really is gonna be enough. I mean eating out for 2 people would probably be at least $100-150 a day no? So that means about $900 or more for the 6 days. Then activities are at least $100-150 each. So we can do maybe 2 or 3 and that would put us right around $4000. What about gas to drive around and misc. things?
I've been to Oahu twice and the Big Island once (last year). All those times hotel, flight, and some food was paid for so I didnt spend all that much. Now im covering everything so i wanna see if Im gonna be good with that budget. |
