I didn't realize that, interesting! What was their reasoning, strictly reputation/conformance to what is normally "excepted/expected" visually out of the breed?

Yes, mainly conformance. Though, there is some evidence that ear infection are more prevalent since the breed was never designed (and it is a designer dog) to have floppy ears. But I believe that the bottom line is that these pups come from showlines and they are fiercely protective of how they are represented.

I fucking LOVE bull terriers. I was looking to get one but the wife said absolutely not.

As for the Dobermans, aren't there major hereditary health issues with them? I've always loved the breed but have read that something like 50% have potentially fatal conditions like dilated cardiomyopathy and 25% die suddenly with unknown conditions. I just can't deal with that grim probability.

oh no - i miss my Frenchie

his name was Stitch - got him a month before Hurricane Ike hit us in 2009, but he passed away in 2011.

wife and i were devastated......

even my son was like "where's Stitch".

we told him "he went to another house".

then we saw a TV Commercial with a Frenchie chillin on the couch with his owner so we convinced my son that Stitch went to another house so they could put him on TV.......

Yes and no. Obviously a lot of money can be made from breeding dobermans so a large % of the population are bred without regard to whatever health trait they may be passing on. This is why it's crucial to go through a breeder that does extensive health testing of not just the potential parents before they are paired but their lineage as well. It was an expensive 2 year process for us consisting of applications Wait lists, interviews, deposits and they even came out to look at our property... but in the end it's worth it. Of course they cannot 100% guarantee the health of the dog but through their strict breeding they can rule out the most common health problems. We also took out a hefty health insurance policy for him just to be safe.

Btw, my first doberman that I got at 10 years old lived 15 years and I've waited nearly 20 years for another.

How old was he when he passed. What happened?

My dog Dakerr... (after Miranda Kerr) was sick over the weekend. He was bloated and was in pain. It scared me sick....

Tonks the Boston Terrier and Peggy the Pug. These are two of the best dogs in the world; Peg is 6 and Tonks just turned 5 today.
