Las Vegas

I'm in Southern Cali for work for about 3 months and am trying to get some opinions on a nice hotel and other "must go" places for a regular weekend getaway in Las Vegas. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I know that Toby Keith's bar and grill is military friendly offering a free burger entrée and a beer so any spot like that would be awesome. Definitely looking for somewhere nice but not break the bank nice... Was messing around and called the palms to see what the real world sweet was a night... 10k a night! That's insane atleast from my perspective because no one goes to Vegas to spend all there time in the hotel! Again thanks for the suggestions.

Check out the MGM Signature Suites. Don't remember what I paid, but only time spent there was sleeping for an hour or two and showering before going out again. Just go, don't worry about anything else. Get there.

Just get a delux room at cosmo with balcony. They're better than most of the suites in other Vegas hotels and its right in the middle of the strip. Here's a pic I took with my iphone when we were there. You can actually go outside onto your balcony unlike other vegas hotels and you can get a view like this one looking down on the Bellagio water show. Best hotel in Vegas right now for sure. Love that place.

If you're in the military, Planet Hollywood has great rates for you. I got half off with my Government rate there and it's in the middle of the strip and they recently did a remodel of the whole place. Most everything is discounted anywhere you go in Vegas when you serve in the military, even the roller coaster at NY NY. I'll be going as soon as I get back from Afghanistan.

Thanks everyone for the responses, we ended up finding a great deal at the stratosphere 2 nights between 4 50 bucks a piece. Its not to far off the strip and the casino is pretty nice. Looking forward to the trip!

Enjoy, I was going to suggest staying a bit further towards the outskirts, more deals to be had, and just a quick taxi to the strip. But sounds like you're all set.

Enjoy, and walk with your hands in pockets so people don't hand you anoying amounts of cards.

This is your first trip, so it'll be a learning experience. I stayed at the Riviera my first trip, on that end of the strip. The only thing I liked about that end was the Wynn/Encore and Palazzo.

I stayed at Excalibur (basically, exact opposite end) and I liked that side much better. I have another trip planned for June, I'm not sure where I'm staying yet.

Advice, don't go. It's crappy, nothing like shows/movies/expectations. The strip itself is old, dirty, nasty, and smelly. As a food destination it's not up to par, foods just not that good, especially for the prices. The only parts that are actually sophisticated are the insides of the nicest hotels. The one thing that does live up to the hype is the entertainment, lots of shows, and some of them are actually good.
