I'm glad everyone feels warm about his designs but I think in the grand scheme of BMW history, Bangle's stuff and even his protege's stuff is not attractive and I don't think it will survive the test of time the way the 3.0CSL or some the beautiful designs will. Yes, I give him credit for being adventurous and bold. My hat off for that but the stuff is not congruent and does not have timeless beauty but only time will tell. His legacy is the new 1 series and that is plain ugly. Even the M5, while fixing some of the previous funkiness is not aesthetically pleasing to me. Despite this, I still would get one if I could because performance is like "beer goggles" me. If a car is ugly but has awesome performance it raises the attractivenes quotient for me. Good luck Mr. Bangle, I wish you true happiness on your new endeavour but I am glad you are gone from BMW and can't wait for your influence to dissipate.

Disagree, on the E65 7er remarks. It got unfair bad mouthing. The design was different and unique much more so then the bland one we have now. It was more exciting and the rear end did not remind you of any Lexus LS460. The last 7er even looks up to date now and ditto for E60. The design of both those cars has not gotten old. Where as the MB of the same time or even Audi are now just way too dated looking.

Bangle was the greatest thing to ever happen to BMW. It is clear to me that the designs are going to continue declining as they already have started with the F30. I cant wait to read this to see what the man who knows best has to say about the future designs of cars and what that implies... This is exactly what I wanted. It was the saddest day of life when i found out he left BMW.

Great designs don't grow on you
Great designs hit you at first sight
And stay that way, forever
Take a look at the alfa Romeo 8c

What grows on you is familiarity
You get used to the design, and don't notice it's weirdness
When you see a beautiful model, she doesn't grow on you

I think the reason that many people, including me, didn't like the E65 was because of how good the previous E38 looked. The E38 looked surprisingly svelte and athletic for a big car, especially in sport trim. When the E65 debuted, I felt it lost that athleticism and took on more of a bloated look.

Do you think that some of Bangal's inspiration still lives in the current 7 series.

His work on the e65/66 was so different. The e66 looked like such a big car from certain angles, while the current 7 series can easily be mistaken for a 5 series.

I now think he was a genius, brave & bold too boot....couldn't say that when he was around... I may not completely agree with all of his designs but there is no questioning his influence and vision.
