Just last weekend, there was Eagle Fun Days in Eagle, Idaho. They advertise heavily about the "Rocky Mountain Oyster Feed" and "Have a ball." I have never gone to this event. I don't have a stomach for it.

EAGLE - For those of you who don't know, rocky mountain oysters are a part of a bull's anatomy. But, they're considered a Wild West delicacy. The popular annual feed is this weekend in eagle.

It's a long-standing Eagle tradition, but organizers found out last year, advertising for a rocky mountain oyster feed can be, well, rocky.

Thursday morning the Eagle Fun Days carnival was going up. Workers were assembling rides, hanging prizes on the walls, and getting the ticket counter ready.

But the rides and games weren't the start of this annual celebration. It all started with a bull testicle feed to raise money for the local volunteer fire department.

"It's been going on before Eagle Fun Days even started so everything has evolved around that," said Scott Pruett with the Fire Department.

No bull. However, last year, there was one bull who fed a frenzy of controversy.

"They took my man junk Jerry!," cries an animated bull from an ad produced pro bono for the fire department by a New York advertising agency last year. It included the tag slogan: "Rocky Mountain Oyster Feed. Have a ball, or two."

But the bull talked at length about losing his testicles, and even used profanity (bleeped out) in one version of the ad. The ads did run on local radio stations and garnered a lot of media attention.

But they upset city officials enough that Eagle's mayor threatened to cancel the event.

"Last year was obviously a little more risque and funny," said Doug Plourde, who was having lunch outside an Eagle eatery and watched both ads.

"The whole city is involved in this and when you're fighting something that's not really necessary, it just adds more headaches so we tried to keep a real even keel," said Pruett.

So this year, the ads stuck to radio and featured two squirrels who won't be needing to gather nuts for winter.

"See Cliffy, I told you we can have all the nuts we can eat," says one squirrel to the other.

"Mmmmm," replies Cliffy, "Say, what kind of nuts are these?"

"I don't know, but they sure taste a lot like chicken," says the other squirrel.

"I can see how last year's was a little bit more age sensitive than this year's," said Mark Barnard who was also lunching in Eagle.

Barnard and Plourde weren't offended by either ad, but some say toning it down this year was a good move.

"You need to be careful what children see because they pick up everything," said Polly Minder who just moved to the area from Portland.

But nut feed organizers say the flap from last year was actually good for business, maybe too good.

"It got attention," said Pruett, "Almost got too much attention; we had more people than we could really get through the door."

But they expect some of that will spill over to this year and keep the nut feed cracking.

"Sounds like they were successful last year to me," said Barnard, "I mean that's what you go after is business success, and it's a good fundraiser, too."
