Woman dies in ER lobby as 911 refuses to help
OMFG has anyone seen this? What a horrible horrible way to die and to have this incompetence added on top of it... what a terrible shame

wtf is wrong with people nowadays. I swear to God a lot of shitty things have happened lately.
First- the Ed Jew case 2nd- Paris Hilton case (affected our trust in the justice system) and now this (granted that this happened last month)... There are other things but those are the 3 that stuck out. |

People get bowel perfs all the time. Not really that uncommon. That's a shitty situation. Can't believe she was arrested and died being wheeled out by the cops!

I wouldn't go so far as to say it's common, but not extremely uncommon either. It can be a complication of Ulcerative Colitis, Diverticulitis, Colorectal Cancer or other inflamitory bowel diseases, or can be from abdominal trauma. In any case it's one of the most painful things to have happen to you. I imagine being shot in the abdomen would feel better than a bowel perforation. It is a very serious condition because of the obvious acute symptoms, but also because of complications such as intraperitoneal infection and possible sepsis. If it's caught in time it has a very good prognosis. The longer the condition continues the higher the mortality rate is.
In any case a horrible horrible way to die. And for someone to watch a person suffer that greatly and not intervene is frankly abhorrent. We treat horses better than we do our own species sometimes. |

I sense a HUGE lawsuit coming. Think hundreds of millions. Wrongful death, negligence, etc.

I'm deeply troubled by the negligence of the hospital staff (especially as an aspiring md)... However, I can't seem to fault 911. In my previous life I was a 911 operator, and quite honestly, if I received those calls, I would've had the same response. "You're already in an ER!" My paramedics would have ripped me a new one for dispatching them TO a hospital for a medical emergency... |

This was a horrible example of our poor health care system. I practice medicine in Baltimore and was ashamed when I read this story. Glad to hear the chief medical officer was canned. I also feel that city or regionally owned health systems often deliver less than optimal care. Privately owned hospitals or large medical centers have much more money and incentive to attract better quality.

for the health care people... you guys gotta see this hospital... its a mess low staff with huge volume.
Also county employee's dont have a good incentive to work hard here. Triage takes forever and its hard to tell who is homeless sleeping the waiting room vs a patient. fk |
