Exclamation Anyone here have/had a hernia??

Just wondering if anyone can help me out on this. I found this lump that is kind of like a 3rd testicle but if I push on it, it goes back in. I called the doctor yesterday (found it Thursday) and they wont be able to see me for 3 WEEKS! WTF!? I explained the urgency of the situation and the girl on the other end didn't quite seem to get it. If it is a hernia has any one had surgery for them before? It doesn't really hurt normally but lately if I've been doing any heavy lifting I get a pulling pain there. Is there any way that I can for the most part figure out that its a hernia and not something worse on my own?

From your description, it seems like a groin hernia. Those are the types of hernias the doctor checks for in a physical of males. My wife has an epigastric hernia & her dad is recovering from a second mesh repair surgery for a groin hernia. As long as you can push it back in you should be fine until you can be seen by the doctor. Your doctor will likely refer you to a specialist. In the meantime, don't go bowling or backpacking. g/l

I have had two Inguinal Hernias, don't wait like I did on the first one. It was torn so bad they could not use the mesh/screen to repair so it had to be repaired the old way, I think they sew it shut, it hurt like hell. the second one was a breeze.

Call your Dr.s office back and tell the idiot 8 dollar an hour employee answering the phone you need to see the DR. immediately. say whatever you need to get in, tell her you went to the ER and they want you to follow up with your doc asap.

And don't do any lifting, you could really hurt yourself

Walk in the front door of your doctor's office and ask to see your doc. I recently got dicked around by the "staff" at the office and it wasn't until I made it clear I was coming in to see him that they put him on the phone. After that, it was easy.

Don't do anymore heavy lifting for the time being. If it becomes painful, go to ER immediately.

3 weeks?

Unless you're part of a cheap health care plan on Kasier, I don't see why you have to wait that long

Hell, I don't even think Kasier makes people wait 3 weeks..

I've had groin hernia et since I'm in Canada it took about a year since the day I saw the doctor until I was at the hospital to get it fixed. It also took about a month and a half to see the doctor.

The most painfull part are the next couple of days following the surgery. It hurts like a mofo and you cant do much but after two weeks max youre good to go.

I also had bilateral inguinal hernia's (two of them). These are the type about 2-3" above your member. The other two common types are near the belly button and in the sack.

My Dad had one in the sack. Ouch.

I would imagine that is what you have too. I would keep trying to get into the doc to get it checked out....

As the above had said, the recovery is painful. My Dad said his nuts swelled up to the size of grapefruits. I had hernias on both sides, so I could barely walk for a few days after mine.

However, you have to get it corrected. The big risk is the intestine can get twisted and cause all kinds of bad things.

So get it checked out and get it taken care of.

After my consult with the surgeon, it took about 6-8 weeks to get into surgery. As long as you don't have a lot of pain, etc, etc, its not an emergency type thing and you just have to wait your turn to get it fixed.

Good luck.....

^ This is exactly what they said I have.

I went to the ER yesterday. I go to see a specialist this week to schedule surgery. I never had surgery before so not sure what to expect. The reason that the appt to see the regular doctor was so long was because he was getting up in years and his practice was bought out by the health care monopoly around here and expanded beyond their capacity earlier this year.

Again Thanks for the help guys, I knew there had to be some people that would be able to help me out.

If it doesn't hurt and don't have the surgery. Typically the outcome of the surgery is worse than what your deal with because of the hernia. Loose some weight, the bulge you feel is fat.

It really only bothers me when I do any type of lifting and after pro longed standing/walking around. Which gets to be pretty cumbersome with the way that I work, i.e. going on calls, casketing, standing for 3+ hours @ funerals and viewings. All of which happen multiple times a day.

Not really panicking, I had a feeling on what it was and I'll get it taken care of. If it wasn't effecting me daily now, I would think about putting it off for a little. From what others have said and what I have read, I run a risk of more possible complications if I do.... Also I'm a pretty thin, 6 foot 1 and 152 pounds.......

damn, you're the same guy giving the other guy on other thread advise about lung cancer?..

now I am sure you're prob a physician but unless you take a specific medical history from the guy or have examined him, an odd thing to say imho..

now I am not a general surgeon or urologist but saying "if it doesnt hurt dont worry about it" seems odd and possibly irresponsible...the better question is this, is it reducible(meaning can you push it back where it came from)?...this would be the better question imho....this implies it isnt likley to be incarcerate/strangulate the small bowel in the nutsack, which can make you very sick.

Go see the surgeon OP.

In Europe they work properly but over here, its not working and ill explain to you why its not working.

First of all, our doctors are limited in their salary. So basically they are capped at 250k$ a year if your a specilised doctor. Now, you say thats good money, and it is, but you get out of school, have 100k$ of money that you need to pay back so its gonna take a couple of years before you pay that back and fully take advantage of your 250k.

Now, lets say this same doctor, has an off from a company in the United States that offers him 150k$ right off the bat so it pays off his loan, and offer him 400k$ a year. What do you think he does? Leaves Canada and goes in the United States. Why this happens? Because school here is cheaper than you guys so we have a lot ore doctors ready that you guys do so everyone comes here and take them all.

In return, we are in desperate need of nurses and doctors over here. Almost half the population doesnt have a family doctor.

Now another problem we have is that they let anyone go to ER. So old folks with a cold get there. Idiots with a head ache or nothing major get there because they want to get treated faster than waiting 3 months for an appointment with the doctor so you have a broken arm, you will wait over 12 hoUrs before seeing a doctor.

In Europe they dont have the shortage of doctors and nurses problem so already there a big part of the puzzle is in place and they have a better way of filtering emergencies for people who really are sick and those who arent.

First of all you're right, it was irresponsible to offer advice, without history. After the vino takes hold, foresight becomes a little short.

The OP did state that it was reducible (he could push it back in, lol) in his first post.

As for the "advise about cancer", I gave none, but I am in a unique position to ensure that he get's very good advise. So I thought I'd help... Shame that you had to call it out here and cause me to rethink my offer.
