Question Need advice. What digital SLR should I buy?

Hey guys, I am new to photography and very interested in taking pictures of cars, etc. I am looking for a digital Slr. Something that costs around $500 with a decent (fast) lens. I prefer canon or nikon.

What would you guys buy?

Maybe something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-D3100-Digital-18-55mm-3-5-5-6/dp/B003ZYF3LO/ref=sr_1_2?s=photo&ie=UTF8&qid=1311791153&sr=1-2"

Thanks in advance for any advice at all.

I'm selling a Cherry Canon 40D with super low shutter count for $525 shipped. It's the body only, but it's practically brand new. You can get a sweet 50mm prime for about $100 to go with it. I think that most will agree that the 501.8 is night and day better than the 18-55.

A little above budget, but if you're getting into photography you better get used to going over the budget a little bit! Plus you'll be happier with a nice body and lens over a kit.

Just checked and my 40D has less than 3800 clicks on it.

I bought it new in 2008..... Talk about low use. Sat in my bag in the corner of my bedroom most of it's life. Needs a good home!

That's only 1250 pics a year!!
