Exclamation ATLANTA = Frozen Apocalyptic Wasteland?

Whoa... They are getting what we got back in November. But there is/was a painfully obvious lack of prudent planning by local gov't!

I am seeing cars/trucks stuck on the highways for over 24hrs. People abandoning their cars on the roads wondering around (absolute stupidity) schools with students and staff trapped in schools since yesterday and all sorts of MAYHEM!

Georgians - Chime in...???

Even though the south may only see a storm like this once every ten years I still keep a sleeping bag and some food/water in the car In case it gets stranded. Leaving the car in this case is about the worst thing you could do.

Very smart of you. Most don't even think of "what if" when leaving home, but prudent planning could definitely save your life....

Weather wasn't even that bad, but I guess we're just not ready for any type of snow haha.

But ya, traffic was horrendous yesterday. I have a 5 min local commute and it took me almost an hour to get home. I have a friend that's a teacher who had to sleep at school with her students and a friend's dad left his work at 3PM and didn't get home til 3AM (1hr drive normally). Pretty crazy stuff.

I pack boots, gloves, and a shovel in my car for the winter but it's so densely populated here I could probably just walk to a warm bed in less time than it would take to dig out my car.

Central NY turns into a frozen apocalypse after 2" of snow?

We were suppose to get hit by this over here in Savannah, But it just ended up raining. Work gave us 2 days off paid basically for a rainy day lol. I'm from Boston so I find this whole thing hysterical. I understand that the south doesn't have snow removal equipment but seriously there will be 6-12" of snow on the roads before the plows even get to it and 2 inches shuts down a city? Wheres Billy badass in his lifted redneck truck? Probably in a ditch.

Lmfao. Three weeks ago I was driving a RWD M3 through a blizzard which brought us 12 inches here in St. Louis, MO. These 'tards get an inch and start freaking out and even abandoning their cars on the highway! Unbelievable.

The problem is ability to clear the roads. The city can't do it. The airport has more plows than the city. If NY didn't have its fleets of salt trucks and plows it would be chaos too. I guess the city figures a mess like this every four years isn't worth the investment in trucks.

I spent 3 hours making a 15 minute drive last night. I'd prob still be there if I hadn't ventured onto the ice sheet back roads. The issue causing the jam was that the entrance onto 285 from Roswell had backed up FIVE MILES into Buckhead. I counted 30 wrecked cars, multiple stalled semis, a jackknifed fedex double trailer, saw a pickup wipe out at 60 mph (further outside town), and managed to avoid stopped semis that started sliding sideways across lanes because 85 had a slight cross grade at that point.

Summer tires. That is the problem.

Most people in the south can get away with even summer tires almost every single winter.

A couple of people with summer tires in the snow can hold up quite a few other people. Multiply that

only retards try to drive in that shit when they don't have to...

"have to" probably included getting kids from school. The buses stopped running and kids were stranded, so out went the parents.

but why !?!?

City Officials should have started shutting down schools long before that.....

Houston School districts left a voicemail @ 7:45pm the night before our winter storm, so no one would be dumb enough to attempt to drive in that kind of weather.....

it's common sense, and apparently, Atlanta lacks much of it....
