Here is Chris Bangle again
http://europe.autonews.com/apps/pbcs...#axzz2eSR1ZaGP
Kind of makes sense what he is saying, but a lot of us might disagree At least he made all cars look different, not 3 a baby 5 and 5 a baby 7, and 3/4 sharing identical interiors. I feel BMW would not be where it is (doing so well in sales with so many cars out there) if it was not for some radical Bangle designs, though controversial. Wonder if anyone has access to full article. I'd be interested to read what he said.

I actually liked the Bangle Designs and was in love with the e60 not to mention the e90 to include the X5s.
Now with the new designs the Bangle designs look dated and I wonder if they will survive history - only time will tell. The e28, e30, e36 were a test of time designs, but feel that the F30 just may have it too! check back on this thread in 2033 to validate! |

To be honest the E90 interior was not that bad, simple & clean.

While I think the F10 5 series is a beautiful car, it's not particularly distinctive. The E60 was absolutely unique and worked. |

In terms of his work moving the auto design industry forward, maybe so... but it took a LOT of tweaking to bring his designs to a point where they were attractive. Earlier generations all looked great to me from the moment I saw them. Taking the 3 series as an example, previous redesigns were not what I would call "radical", but I definitely think the e30-->e36-->e46 were all excellent evolutions that resulted in some of the best looking cars on the road in each of their days - which have stood the test of time. The same cannot be said of the e90, in my opinion. Fortunately, the 3 series has it's stellar looks back again with the F30 - now that Bangle has been put out to pasture where he can't do any more harm. Funny that he's now critiquing the auto design industry as a whole; just because there are no radical designs that intrigue his fringe aesthetic, he thinks that signifies a design rut. I think there are a lot of great looking cars out there from a number of different manufacturers, and I for one hope Bangle remains in retirement. Last edited by DVC; 09-10-2013 at 09:42 AM.. |

Well said. The only thing I like about Chris Bangle is he saved me $70k. I kept my 2003 540 for 10 years; fantastic car in every way. The E60 was a mess in my view. Bangle taught me that my life would not end if I did not get the new model (E60) I know other people liked it. Good for them. I enjoyed 5 years of no car payments and the thrill of driving the E39 for such a long time. I leapfrogged the Bangle design years and now I am impatiently waiting for my 2014 328i to arrive after my European Delivery adventure. |

I actually loved the E60, but hated the E90 (at least pre LCI for sure). The F10 seems like a tame successor from the E60, but the F30 definitely corrected what was wrong in the E90.

I loved the e90 and e92. Classic design IMO. I only liked them with the sports/msport package. The base models never did it for me. when I see an e90 sport or msport driving I still think it looks awesome.

+1 The new generation is a step forward in fixing the ugly Bangle designs. That said the E46 and E39 that gen of BMW was the pinnacle of BMW design. You didn't have the weird hoodline on those cars and they were simple yet sporty designs. See one today and still admire the lines on those cars.

i think the quality of interior was much better in the previous 3 series generation than wit the f30, when you slam the door with the window open it makes such a loud noise that is unacceptable for a 50-60k car, also the doors feel very cheap compared to previous generation even the x1 has better quality doors from the inside than the f30

Radical != Good
I hated the e90 esp. when it came to the interiors. I'm glad the F30 interior was fixed to return to the driver-centric theme of previous generations (e46, e36, etc.). |
