Porsche Macan Turbo, S, and Diesel (First Drive Impressions)
UPDATE (09 OCT 2013): First Drive Impressions http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...an_first_ride/ http://www.autoweek.com/article/2013...NEWS/131009813 (UPDATE 29 SEPT 2013) Here is what I could make out from the leaked pic... (Slide dated) Sep 2014 2013 LA Auto Show May 2014 (Release Date?) MSRP <$52,000 (S) <$75,000 (Turbo) Technical: -Macan S with 3.0L Bi-Turbo -Macan Turbo with 3.6L Bi-Turbo -Standard 7 Speed PDK, 19 inch wheels (S and Turbo), New Generation of Multifunction Steering Wheel, Piano Black Inlays -Bi-Xenon, Electric Tailgate, dual electric seats, TFT, CDR+, available panoramic roof -Available Air-Suspension (only vehicle available in its segment) -All segment specific options + typical Porsche (read: Expensive) Options available Thoughts on the upcoming Macan? I might be in the market now that I have a kid and our two 3 series BMWs just aren't cutting it when we've tried to haul baby gear around plus two small dogs. Looking to increase space without getting an Escalade sized hauler. Still, I am excited to see what Porsche does with the Macan (Q5 based) even though the options for a similarly equipped SQ5 will launch the price into fully equipped F80 M3 / E70 X5M Base price range. Macan all the way. I've driven the X3, MLK and Q5 back to back and I just didn't like the Audi that much. I wasn't blown away by the interior either.

My gf and I are in process of trading our Cayenne diesel for a Q7 tdi and saw the sq5 and it was hot. That said, the Cayenne is the best performing best driving, flat out best performance SUV on the road...the Macan will only improve on this given the smaller size. Plus the Macan look amazing!

The Macan photos just look like they put a giant man in a Cayenne.

The Q5 is great on paper and then you get inside one and think, "what is this?" I don't know why but that interior just doesn't do it for me (3.0T) like the S4, S6 etc. Hopefully the SQ5 is more interesting. The Macan will be great but I too have fear for the pricetag. My wife will be in the market for a new car in a year or two and I'm guessing the X3 will be pretty high on the list. The new 'Benz GLA looks interesting too but I don't know much about it.

Sister had a Q5 now she has an X3. Both very nice, and they drive very similar. I assume the SQ5 is just a little sportier.
I love the cayanne though, I'm hoping I can get a nicely optioned Mecan S or GTS (turbo Aero is key) |

Had same impression on the new CLS550. I thought the interior of the 6er GC was miles ahead.

I test drove the SQ5. I was considering it as a potential replacement for my 2009 Cayenne. It is not even remotely in the same league. It is very fast in straight line for an SUV. 0-60 is just over 5 seconds, while my Cayenne is just under 6 seconds. Beyond that, however, the car feels floaty and disconnected and the steering sucks. I would wait for the Macan for sure. If the Macan can replicate the overall responsiveness, brilliant steering and phenomenal ride/handling balance of the Cayenne in a smaller more dynamic package, it will be a real winner.
I used to be a big Audi fan, but after owning a Porsche and an M3, the Audis just don't cut it, R8 notwithstanding.

I don't know about the Porsche but my wife really likes the Q5's. We did test drive a S Line version of it and I was ok with it for what it is worth. It is much better than X3 hands down and she had no interest in MB.
I think people are being a bit too harsh on the Q5. I am going to go test drive the SQ5 as well but for its purpose (driving in town to go get groceries and some spirited drives) it is appears to offer a good package. I can always try to convince her to get a CPO Cayenne GTS as well. It is no M3 or 911 replacement by any means.
