Handicap Parking Spot Question
my dad has a business and pays a land owner rent. but outside the building he has about 5 parking spots reserved for his company 1 being handicap and the closest to the building door. now my father has been parking in his handicap parking spot all the time and no problem.
but today as he parked in the handicap spot, a fire inspector that was investigating business office next door he commented that my dad can't park there. my dad explained it was his business and yet the guy still said he can't. is this true? its my dad's business and his parking spot no? i mean there are signs that clearly say reserved parking for (business name) |

Unless your dad IS handicapped, and has the placard to certify so, it is both immoral and illegal to park in a space marked handicapped only.

you got to be kidding me, did you ask this question in your head first before posting? Of course your dad is wrong to park in the handicap parking space unless he is handicapped

Your dad owns that one section of the Plaza, not the entire thing. The landlord owns that property, and your dad just rent it out. Even then, it's illegal and unethical to park in handicap space...
Can't believe this was asked...

damn lets chill with the bashing. its not a big commercial building like sears parking lot. just a small industrial building near teterboro airport lol. anyhow i am asking this b/c i thought if you are a owner of the space it don't matter. like if the cec wheel ceo wanted to park in a handicap in his lot he can't? doesn't make sense to me. its his business, his lot, his everything lol.
even so the land owner or nobody else ever gave a hoot ne how. |

its not the same thing as the owner of a business making a parking space for his secretary and parking there, which seems to be your manner of thinking |

your dad does not own the handicap space, period. The handicap space was installed there by law so a person with disability can access the building with ease (relatively speaking). It's his business, NOT his lot, NOT his everything, and I'm not lol at him parking at the handicap space

with the ADA there is a ratio of handicapped spaces to regular spaces required by law. Your logic about owning a space is a little flawed. For example, the owner of lets say a grocery store. If they park in the handicapped space they get a ticket. In court I dont think a judge will say "yeah I'll dismiss this because you own the grocery store and you shouldnt walk the extra 25feet"
If your dad needs to park close, he can reserve the spot next to the handicapped one with an Employee of the Year sign

I won't and do think it's wrong to park in handicap spots.
I do however condone parking in Pregnant Women spots. They need the fucking exercise. Bring this topic up at work for funny conversation. You'd be surprised at the number of women who agree. |

well, i am only going to speak for Florida and more specifically Miami. it is illegal to park in a handicap space. But the rules about consequences change somewhat depending on what type of property you are on. for example if you are on the beach, most of the time the parking spots are public property therefore you can be towed or even arrested if the cop wants to be a dick. but if you are on private property they (cops, meter maids) can't do shit, only the owner can have your car towed.
lil fact: about 75% of the people who park in those spots are full of shit. Nothing wrong with them. |
