Right, no issues helping others. Sometimes you need help because none of us can do everything ourselves. I think it's a sign of strength to ask for help. I don't like to see families in desperate situations.

Food? Clothing? Education? Good things.

I understand a need to communicate and have access to Internet in order to find a job.

The problem with gov't assistance is you have do much choice, why work to get your own. Example...food stamps should be replaced with a standard regiment of meals calculated to provide basic caloric and nutritional needs. Not just coupons to do whatever with.

I think you'll find that the charities in the US do a ton to help people. I'd rather see that grow vs the gov't.

Wrong. They eat like kings. They eat name brands while the working man/woman who is busting their ass to support their family is buying store brands to try to make ends meet. I see this everyday. Also, many of them "sell" their cards for cash so they can buy dope and booze. This is your tax dollar at work. Mexicans come to this country and work their tails off. They have no trouble getting a job, yet we have "Americans" sitting on their ass collecting a check, eating free food, living rent free, and talking on free cells phones.

I agree that some times we all fall down on our luck or things just did not play out well for us. But I will tell our system is screwed up, when I was out of a job and applied for unemployment and health insurance for my family and I was willing to pay for insurance since I had money in the bank and have a nice big house with two cars and I was told since I had no income it was not eligible for the insurance that I paid a lower premium.

They referred my case to Welfare. Today my kids both have a welfare health card which is good until they are 18 and was told never to loose it since they can never get it again if we loose it. For 6 months my kid were on welfare health system and got all their medical expense paid for nothing came out of my pocket even though I was willing and able to pay. They just went for the well visits and shots.

They were going to give us food stamps but we refused it, my wife could not bring herself to present the card at the store for food, she just went and got a part time job to cover the food costs.

After seeing this first hand I can see why people get hooked on all this and letting the government pay and tax payer pay for them. But a free cell phone, I am sorry there is no reason you can tell me that anyone needs a cell phone, yes it nice, but nothing change in the last 30 yrs where there is no other choose. They do not need internet access since you can always go to a library.

Honestly if they are going to say you need a cell phone or internet access why not a car as well since you might need to drive to an interview.

The government is like a crack dealer, they just continue to enable these people and not forcing them stand on their own.

My house is being roofed today. Their are six Mexican gentlemen on my roof working hard to make a better life for themselves. With unemployment at over 8% and 1 out of every 7 Americans on food stamps, why is there not one American working with this roofing crew today?

I'd be sitting there all day watching them if I were you, especially if there was a big hail storm recently. A year and a half ago I got my roof replaced after a big hail storm and I can PROMISE you that crews come out of the woodwork, and not all of them are truly qualified to be replacing a roof (at least not to U.S. standards) when the demand shoots through the roof (sorry..).

We had MAJOR issues that we dealt with for months. I was very close to filing a lawsuit with the roofer by the end of it.

All roofing crews are Mexican. When was the last time you saw and American doing this kind of work? We are too fucking lazy for that. Don't know if they are here legally, but the roofing contractor is extremely reputable and has roofed two of my friends houses already with no issues.

I guess I don't understand how there are this many people on welfare when we have people running across the border everyday getting a job with no problem. Too many Americans are lazy as fuck and they know they can get away with sitting on their ass, because the rest of the country will pay to take care of them. It's garbage and it's cancerous and will eventually be the downfall of this country.

I am so sick and tired of people saying "you won't find an American doing that"

My grandparents came from Germany and Ireland (legally, through Ellis Island) A short list of the things I have/continue to do in my daily life:
picked strawberries, blackberries, apples, cherris
raked hay, milked cows, chased pigs back into their pens
cut the grass, and the grass at the little league
clean toilets (public and private)
empty trash cans
paint, both interior and exterior
lay tile
carried the shingles up to the roof, but didn't know enough to nail them up there
wash cars

All the while, I have a normal work week as an IT manager, got thru school, both undergrad and graduate SCIENCE degrees. I was born in this nation's capital, am 100% AMERICAN, while still tracing my roots back to their origin in another country.
