Do you use your Degree?
This is a topic that is curious to me. I know most people on this site are sucessfull and im just curious if you used your college education to get to where you are.
Personally i was in college for an undergrad in bio with intetntion to go to PA school but realized my university only takes 38 of 600 applicants and i wasnt one of those 38. I then went on and got my associates degree in science while i was working for toyota. I am currently a tech at toyota until my lease runs out then i will be helping a friend run a business that works on bmw, audi, mercedes ect. |

BS in Chemistry/Geology. MS in Technology Management. I'm a sys admin, so you could say I use my masters, but it really didn't teach me anything. I worked for a few years in environmental engineering, so for those few years I used the BS. But then IT opportunities came along and I've been doing it ever since.
Short answer: No.

Yes. It got me in the door at my current job and I'm surprised how much of the degree-specific knowledge I use during the job.
However I would make no qualms over taking a job that was unrelated to my degree.

Finance degree. I work for a natural gas pipeline company doing business development and some trading so in theory I should use it some. But I really don't use it very often at all. That said, I don't feel like it was a worthless degree. Most of the finance I am concerned with is accomplished with a financial models that are very simple to use, hell a monkey could probably use them.
I hope to get an MBA in ~5 or so years so hopefully I will use that much more. |

BBA in Finance, and I do not use my degree at all. It seems like the only options available to me upon graduation were personal financial planning and insurance sales. Neither of which I wanted to do. An Accounting degree would have been much more beneficial.
