So I commute to my College, which is in a small redneck town. I daily drive a slammed MKVI GTI bright red on silver BBS's. Today my mother calls me telling me that the Sheriff's department called saying that I need to slow down or they will put a warrant out for my arrest. The deputy said that they gave me 2 warnings for speeding already and I keep speeding. WTF? First off I am 24, and my car isn't registered to their address, phone number, or anything like that. Secondly I've never received a warning from any police department in this state and I do not speed. At the most I go 5-9 mph over the limit... They claim that they keep seeing my car, my tags blowing past cops, cutting cops off, and ignoring them. Again I rarely drive in this county. Three times a week I drive a 5 mile stretch of a two lane highway at the speed limit or slightly above. There is no other car like mine here. I've only seen one GTI and it is gray.

Obviously the solution is go under the speed limit in the county, but what gives? My guess is redneck town red German car, loud exhaust (stock), too low. Punk driving it (Served 4 years in the Marines and I dress business casual).

I'm truly shocked and do not know what to do. I might give my attorney a call, but its a small town and they will only try to F me.

They are notorious douchbags. They did a raid on a dorm and breathelized kids on a Saturday night.

It's all about perspective, they theoretically have less to do, less to do also means that a small offense can likely be blown out of proportion. The same thing happens to me in my 135, I live in a small town on the outskirts of a larger town.

The cops are constantly harassing me and I NEVER speed unless on rare occasions when I find it necessary. However it has never gone so far as them calling my house to tell my parents about it, but then again if that happened my mom would rip them a new one. She knows how I drive, and knows that if they did call that it would be bogus.

That being said they are the law, best to just drop the speed to the speed limit or below at all times, hell even give them a friendly wave as you go by. I would even considering stopping and asking some sort of benign question such as asking about traffic conditions or something just to see if they treat you adversely.

I'm originally from a small town (7000 people)... so I totally understand the predicament.


I remember once back in high school my buddy and I pulled out of a gas station at night (fully lit with all kids of overhead lighting, etc.) and he had forgotten to turn his headlights on because of all the ambient light from the station.

As we were driving away (getting farther from the station's ambient light) he noticed that his lights weren't on and flipped them on just as a cop was driving by the other direction.

The cop litterally did an e-brake turn (smoking tires and everything) in the middle of a busy two-lane street to pull us over.

He approached the car and asked us if we were playing some kind of a joke on him by trying to keep our lights off to taunt him. Then asked us if we'd been drinking and partying, etc.

We'd both just gotten some big-ass fountain drinks from the gas station and he kept telling us that he was going to have them "tested for booze" and all sorts of other nonsense. Not 90 seconds after he pulled us over 3 other city cops came from all directions really agressivly driving like we had 50 kilos of heroin in the trunk and were involved in some kind of a shoot-out.

(4) cops and 30 minutes later he let us go without even a warning...



Long story, but after dealing with this kind of shit my entire adolescent life all I can offer is that most small town cops are from the town they patrol and have a complete hard-on for the law and are constantly out trying to proove themselves. There is NOTHING you can do about other than just cope and hope to move at some point in the future.


Although I'd have to say unless they have actual proof if your supposid infractions (videos of you cutting them off, etc.) it's all just circumstantial evidence and shouldn't be admissible if you do end up having to go to traffic court.
