Help with selling my wifes vehicle

I am selling my wife's Range Rover on Craigslist. I have sold things in the past and have always taken cash or certified bank draft. I recieved this email and was wondering if its legit??

"Thank for your mail. I'm satisfied with the condition of it as advertised in the listing,i will offer you $30200 for it.I would like you to know that i am really interested in buying this for my father, payment will be through PayPal and the pick up will be arranged by me as i will have my agent come down to pick it up...i will be waiting to hear from you,and i will like you to send me the name and email address on the PayPal account to send the payment and send me more pics of this item if available since i would not be seen it in person so i can pay it right away I am a busy at work and do not have much time around me.Make sure you get back to me so that we can arrange for pick up as i will like the item to be picked at your residence,so no shipping

Thanks and reply asap.

Regards
"

I replied stating that I didn't have a PayPal account, and he replied this,

Thanks for the message ....the reason why PayPal is the only payment option is because it is safe and secure and as soon as i make the payment for it,you will be sent a notification for the payment receipt in this your email ....that is if you use this your email address to set up the paypal account and i have a mover that will come over for the pick up and the pick up representatives only comes up when we have finish the deal so don't worry i will be the one to take care of the pick up expenses ok. i will be glad if you can log on to www.paypal.com and set up your account and send me email use to set up and i will suggest you make use of this your email address so when i make the payment you will be notify of the receipt from PayPal instantly.

i look to read from you soon.

I do have a Paypal account but have never used it for a purchase of $30,000. What are your thoughts. My thoughts that it is a scam. If so, how would he scam me? Help ..

Cheers

Don't do it. I have been trying to sell a car on CL also and I get a ton of emails about money orders or paypal etc. They are all fake. Only accept certified checks.

dont do it..the paypal account could be stolen or they can easily reverse the funds. i would never sell a car w/o a face to face meeting. they can still fly back or whatever but its too risky doing it all online.

also the bad english is a clear sign of a scam.

Only accept check if a local buyer comes down, gives you a copy of his d/l and goes to the bank with you.
Certified checks can be easily faked through a series of accounts.
By the time the check bounces, he is long gone and your bank which took the check, will ask you to repay...
Sucks but welcome to the new world. TRUST NO ONE. period.

Thanks guys for the replies. Once I finished posting this I had time to quickly Google, sure enough it is a scam. I had to ask because I have never used PayPal and wasn't sure how the person could get the monies back etc etc

Cheers

Fuck that guy. if he can send someone to pick the car up at your residence, he can send someone with cash or a bank check. Paypal funds can be reversed, and they always initially side with the buyer. I'd never use Paypal for anything over a few hundred dollars.

Forget that. He/she/it refers to the vehicle as an "item". Scam.

carmax sucks, they offered me $5k for my mazda3. The bmw dealer offered $6750 (good price I thought) and I sold it for $8k. It took a while though because it was a manual.

If you want to get out of the car quickly and are willing to accept a little less then its worth then just trade it in at a dealer that offers you the most. If you have time to spare to get more $ out of the car just post it on auto trader. Good luck

I get these scams from time to time when I try to sell used equipment for my job. I even recently posted something on an industry-specific website, and the scammers were even trolling that little page.

Once I realized it was a scam, I took the chance to unload all my frustration, insults, cuss words, etc on the MF'er because I know they deserved it. Then I did it again. And again. And again until I forgot about the whole thing. It felt good and it was liberating to hit the send button with an all-caps cuss-out to some Nigerian scam prick. I hope I made him/her feel like crap for a few seconds. It made me laugh. Try it!
