When do the new models of TV's come out?
Does anyone know what time of year the new Samsung models are introduced? I am going to get a new one (something bigger than my 46") but I want to wait for the next generation. It seems as though these ones have been on the market for awhile and they are just about due.
Every generation gets better and cheaper so I don't want to get one and then BAM! next week theres a newer model for cheaper. |

new tv's usually debut during CES in january, but they usually don't start shipping until months after that. the samsung LED LCD tv's are a safe "future-proof" bet. until OLED tv's are improved and become cost effective, there isn't much better on the horizon. i own a samsung LED LCD tv and it's spectacular. spring now and get one while the retailers are battling for your holiday business.

Although it is true that from one generation to the next, the cost of technology is usually not going to change much. You are going to be paying a premium for a new model as opposed to buying last years model.

The LED's are coming down in price FOR SURE. Our pricing here in Canada will be different but when Best Buy and FutureShop (the other big player) are knocking $1000 off the 55" LED they are getting a massive discount from Sammie. Ergo, the next generation will be cheaper than what this one rolled out at.
Sweet TV alright. Short of the Pioneer Plasma (which is now discontinued) its the best thing I've seen. |

dont get an led lcd tv man. they cant hang with plasma's. you can get a sweet deal on a pioneer kuro right now that is the king of tv's. after that i would highly recommend a panasonic v10 over any lcd tv.
unless you have a really bright room i see no need to get a lcd tv.

The change from the 2009-2010 models probably won't be too drastic, except for the pricetag. |

That's a thing of the past nowadays. Sure it used to be a problem but I've not seen/heard anyone in the last few years complaining about it. There's a guy saying that he fell asleep with the title menu on for like 6 hours (static image), when he woke up he watched tv for a little bit and the IR went away. IR and burn in are two 2 different things though I believe. But neither of those is still a big problem.

I just picked up a 50" Panasonic Viera Plasma for $599. It was a clearance TV, but the original price was $2999.

i work for samsung electronics corporate ... it's safe to buy the LED tv's... new generation tv's won't come out until mid next year.. but they're probably going to be LED not OLED.. just more enhanced with options for example, built in STB, built in Bluray, PLC... etc...

i have a bottom of the line panny (46" comparable to an s1) and a top of the line panny (65" v10). both look great. obviously the v10 is better but you really cant go wrong. plasma's have refresh rates that lcd can never touch so no motion blur which is annoying. they have deeper blacks and actually have more contrast then LCD's. they also have near perfect viewing angles. the only downside is that there not great for rooms with a lot of natural light that cant be controlled. beyond that your good to go. there calling for OLED tvs over 40" to be somewhat affordable around 2015-2016. OLED is supposed to take over so plasma's and lcd's will be a thing of the past. Heres a cool article if you havent heard of oled before. http://www.oled-display.net/oled-television id say now is a good time to buy. keep it for 6 years and then pick up a new oled

The current top of the line Samsung is the B8500 (notice the 500 and not the regular 8000 series). It comes in '46 and '55. It was just released in October so it is unlikely that you will be getting any new replacement for the top of the line models until toward the end of next year.
The regular 6000, 7000, 8000 series are however 1/2 years old being released during summer. Sony also recently released their top of the line also which is the XBR10. Sony also likes to replace their top of the line models at the end of the year with the mid-end models releasing around summer. So now would be the correct time to get the current generations top of the line. The Samsung 8500 seems to be the better choice this year as it has received many positive reviews and has local dimming LEDs which the Sony XBR10 does not. |

I just picked up a brand new 52" Sony XBR9 LCD for $1250, it was around $3000 when it was first released earlier this year and pricing has come down since. It is light years ahead of my 3yr old 42" Westinghouse LCD that is now in my bedroom.
For those wondering I got it at wholesale cost with a special year-end rebate program on top of that through my company - some of the perks of being in the IT Industry ![]()

Except you know they're actually LCD right? They are still plain old LCD except backlit by LED rather than cold cathode fluorescent. Calling it an LED is like calling every other LCD set on the planet 'Cold Cathode'. It makes no sense and is meant to bamboozle and confuse you with OLED which is still a few years down the road.
It is such a misleading marketing strategy that Samsung have been prohibited from calling them LED sets in England and other countries. http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-10332988-1.html
