i don't get a dime back this year. i owe them a ton of cash actually. apparently, my CPA didn't calculate my quarterly estimated taxes for this past year well enough because i'm thousands short. i also made more money, but whatever. i'm just pissed i have to write the check at all. grr

Yeah, I used to short change them all year and pay at the end but I like getting it back not owing.

I wouldn't recommend hiding expenses from the IRS. If you don't tell them about it then you can't deduct it. If you want to deduct your car expenses simply go in to business for yourself and use the car primarily for the business (I hear realty is booming! and they alway deduct come car expenses). Some CPAs just suck, hopefully her fees are low, but screwing up ES payments this year was pretty tough considering so few were getting extraordinary bonuses or selling stock at a gain.
