Teen M5 driver sentenced for 6 killed

Someone shared: Teen driver going 151 mph before crash that killed 6 pleads guilty, sentenced https://cbs12.com/news/local/galle-p...led-six-people

Local story to me...don't buy teenagers new M5's to learn how to drive..

Guns don’t kill people, people kill people. The issue is probably parenting. Plenty of kids drive their parents expensive cars without doing triple the speed limit

I live in Texas and am a firearms instructor. Carried a gun all of my adult life. I teach the Texas LTC classes.

You don't give an irresponsible teenager uncontrolled access to a firearm. Supervised access yes. My daughter learned to shoot at age 7, at 17 she did not have free access to firearms.

The car is no different. It is not wise to put an M5 into the hands of a 17 year old male. That said, we don't know how he became to be driving it.

Awful to hear about this. We all want to give kids freedom, but safety has to come first. There’s a reason people say “too much, too soon.”

His dad bought it for him.

As far as guns...I am an FFL so...every red blooded 18 year American should be able to walk out of a store with a proper M16 A4..😄

His dad hired therapist's from all over to build a case that his sons anxiety about prison would be a detriment to his health so he should get probation....says a lot about his dad

The richest kid in my high school drove a mid 70s Volvo because his dad assumed he'd wreck his first car so might as well be a cheap one.

He never wrecked it, in fact he drove all the way through college then bought another used Volvo. I don't think he ever got a speeding ticket in it.

He won't even serve all 12 years, will likely do half and get paroled on good behavior
6 years for killing 6 people
What a joke
3 years suspended license? Should be banned from driving for life

There was no jury. His lawyer worked a plea agreement out with the State's Attorney and the judge agreed with it and sentenced him according to the agreement.

I live in the city where this happened. There are so many entitled kids here who have zero accountability for their actions. This kid should have gotten at least 10 years per person killed. I can't speak with confidence, or any knowledge, but there had to be a behind the door deal made with the state.

Very sad, but I'm wondering about this bit. Must have been a well liked kid.

"The victims all have written to us that they do not object to this. Some of them didn't even want him to go to jail at all. One wanted us to drop the case entirely," Johnson said.

I imagine there is a beast of a civil suit floating out there?

There’s an ongoing joke in my country.

How many lawyers does it take to change a bulb ?

Did anyone catch the final paragraph/quote? "The victims all have written to us that they do not object to this. Some of them didn't even want him to go to jail at all. One wanted us to drop the case entirely," Johnson said."
That bit is wild.

As unfortunate as those word are, the payoff to the family must be substantial.

The victims have likely been paid for their loss and for their support of the plea agreement in out of court settlements by the rich parents and their legal team.

Eh, I'm not so sure. Six years is a long time. I've been watching a lot of prison related content on Youtube lately; it's not a pleasant place to be, even in the US. I don't disagree with you and your thinking that a six year sentence is on the lenient side of things, but this kid is in for a rude awakening if they put him in general population...

****Some kids are responsible, and some kids are flat out irresponsible and repeatedly make bad decisions. It takes a good parent to sometimes realize the difference and make the needed arrangements to keep their kid from hurting themselves by being stupid or worse - hurting others due to their kids stupidity.

Sometimes, you just have to take the keys away from the kid, or give them a beater car and see if they are responsible with it before getting them something nicer, or until they can afford something nicer themselves.

I went to school with some kids in high school that were out right irresponsible and their parents unfortunately enabled them to be even more irresponsible by giving them whatever they wanted, and not encouraging them to earn the right to have and be given the freedom to do certain things. One kid I went to high school with ended up driving drunk with his girlfriend, drag racing on a highway and killed her in an accident. The father of the kid driving said he had no idea his kid would do something so irresponsible even though the kid had already been involved in various crimes, reckless driving, and just being an overall crappy kid. Kid went to jail.

I grew up in that area.

There are so many rich kids that have parents that don't care and buy them whatever they want because it's easier than dealing with them. When they get in trouble they pay their way out.

If you want to get mad Google Beruch Zegeye. He went to my school and got a sweetheart deal because the DA was an alumni and his dad was super super rich. He was drunk and on drugs and plowed into stopped cars at 145mph in a Cayenne Turbo. They delayed his trial for years and years, he was allowed to graduate HS, and go to college before justice even pretended it came for him. Dad sued the victims for being in his kids way to limit his liability. On top of killing a pizza guy he crippled the guy in the car in front of the pizza guy.

Rich kids almost always avoid justice. If you cause the death of more than 2 people, you should be executed. Gentle justice works just as poorly as the gentle parenting these losers got.
