I dont know what keys I have

and I can't seem to find anywhere that can tell me.

recent owner of 550e xdrive and it came with two keys, rather plasticky things to be honest so I'd like to pop them into a case.

however

I don't know how to ask the internet to show me a case for the keys I have. when I search for 'case for 550e bmw keys' I get lots of pictures of keys that don't look like mine.

I've tried all sorts of searches changing it slightly, adding, taking away, but to no avail.

these are pictures of my key.

any help as to identifying this ina way that the internet understands would be greATLY appreciated.

I think I referenced bmw i5 M60 2024 or G60 when I searched on Amazon. I'm not sure I like any of the covers I found but I did find one that fit.

Yeah - I’m pretty sure that searching G60, 2024 5 Series or i5 would help as I think the keys are all the same. I do wonder how many are still using the key fobs, I switched over to using my phone with the card key as a backup in my wallet after about a month and have only pulled the key fob out when I took it in for a recall to the dealer.

I use the fob when I valet park only. Normally don't carry it.

Yes, I just referenced G60 in the search. Nothing flash but got these just to tide me over n to be fair, they are pretty decent. One blue, one red. I’ve set the card up and my phone but not quite trusting enough yet to leave without the key fob!

Thanks for the replies.

yes I did see some on amazon that look like my keys, but was reticent because I don't know if there are BMW keys that look like mine but are a slightly different size.

Thinking about it and looking more- probably not.

I think ToddRGuy bought a fob cover if memory serves me correctly. Maybe he can chime in with a link or picture.

I did indeed!

I’ve got this one - Purely Rubber and fits like a glove with some M sport flair. No complaints although the rubber doesn’t cover the last little bit on the “top” of the key, which may or may not set off someone’s OCD.

https://a.co/d/77Ng6tP

And I’ve also got this one. I’m not liking it that well. It gives the fob good “heft” but I’m not impressed by the quality control. The edges didn’t align perfectly so on one side the seam between the two halves is slightly raised.

https://a.co/d/6npryW4

And now, I must confess I embarrassingly ordered this OEM fob cover for a ridiculous amount of “M Money”. It’s not here yet but others have reported on it’s quality. 😳

Sorry to appear ignorant, what is the card key?

In the front pouch of the owners manual packet you should find a credit card sized “key” that you can use for the car. My dealer didn’t actually point it out to me, but through posts here I realized I had one! It looks like this (some are white rather than black).

You place the card key next to the door handle to unlock it, and then put it in the wireless phone charger tray to start the car.

I posted on another thread a while ago but bought the Temu version of this silicone 5er key cover.

Costs next to nothing, in the UK at least, and is very practical and does the job. A very snug and protective fit.

Although I doubt too many people carry a keyfob on them with the availability of the digital key as primary and the wallet digital key as a back-up, I find the physical keyfob to be almost freakishly large to begin with so that even if I did want to carry one of the physical keyfobs I'd be loathe to add any more bulk to it by putting on an additional cover.

But that's just my take on this issue.

I was shown the card key and set it up at the dealer before I drove off.

george in london assuming you are in London

When did you get your car, you seem to be back having the gloss black MSport keys?

There are a few of us who have had cars delivered in November who have had the same shape keys but they are not gloss black and don't have the M tricolore on them. Which I think I might prefer, but it wasn't what I was expecting.

There was another thread a few weeks ago where people were discussing this.

Just be sure you activate the key card by placing it in the wireless charging tray, or it won't function.

Side note – I noticed one key is bigger than the other. Wonder why.

sorry for the late reply to all these comments.

1) the pictures are of one key so they must be the same size but from different angles - lenses do that.

2) I bought the car with 2500 on the clock- it is not brand new, it was the dealers demonstrator.

3) I found the key card eventually in the sun visor!!

4) I got a BMW leather case for the key- smooth one not m sport and its fine.

5) I'm learning slowly to leave the keys at home as I have the phone set up and the card thing in my wallet as a backup.

I still like having the fob with me in my pocket because of the additional versatility. I don't have to remove my phone from my pocket to open, put it in the charger tray to start, and drive my car. the car unlocks when I approach, so I can just get in, push the start button, and go. It seems to me that would just be easier in cold weather while wearing a coat, gloves, and having the phone in an inner coat pocket (As I would when I go back to Seattle).

Do you actually have to put your phone in the charging tray? I thought it would work from a pocket or purse as well. I'll have to try that next time I'm in the car. I always leave my phone in my pocket as I approach and when I leave, and I have the same functionality as you do - but I have not tried leaving it in my pocket when I get in (simply because I like to keep it charging).

I stand corrected. I guess if you have "Comfort Access" and it is enabled you don't have to put your phone on the tray. (Depending on the country I guess).

Turning on the drive-ready state:

Using the smartphone tray

1.Place smartphone in the center of the smartphone tray. Ensure that the display is facing up.

2.Press the Start/Stop button to turn on drive-ready state.

Inside the vehicle With Comfort Access, it is sufficient, depending on the country, for the smartphone with Blue-tooth enabled to be located inside the vehicle. Press the Start/Stop button to turn on drive-ready state.
