Another disappointing experience with this thing

They say make lemonade out of lemons ....What do you make out of a BMW lemon ?
The experience with my car is the by far the worst I have ever had in over 40 years of owning vehicles.

This new update has made my experience worse and I didn't think my situation could get any worse but boy was I wrong.

CarPlay connectivity worse, goes in and out, mirrors close in while driving, cameras come on while driving.

My BMW constantly gives notifications of charging started charging paused while plugged in before the set time of 12:01am.

This car is a complete POS. The experience is horrible, my dealer Haberstaad shouldn't sell scooters.

Wake up no charging overnight.

Other than that I just paid my lease today so maybe not all bad...

ONLY 27 MONTHS TO GO

Happy for anyone who got a good one, but my is the worst.

May not post anymore to be Debbie Downer.

But I hope BMW monitors this site and reaches out wit some kind of solution.

Ask your dealer service manager for an appointment with the BMW after sales service manager. This factory rep visits dealers every week or two to address issues such as yours. They may get a regional technician involved. If they can't get your car fixed request a trade assist (buy back).

Excellent question. They are about 50 miles from my home. I have brought it back so many times and the answer is always the same if it isn't doing it when we have it we cant fix it.

As far as CaPlay , they said I have to leave them my phone for days so they can try figure it out. No way that is happening. I got a new phone same issues. How can it be my phone ?

Condescending videos from repair tech basically telling me I don't know how an EV works. Despite 10 years of Tesla with no issue.

They keep saying I have to buy a BMW charger. When I asked why I wasn't advised that at purchase, I get no answer. When I asked if I have multiple EV's of different brands do I have to buy proprietary charges for each one and basically open up a travel charging station? Crickets of coarse.

I'm just exhausted with the issues. And to be honest I can manage them, it just sucks and shouldn't be with an 80K car.
I am so glad I leased and my monthly countdown continues.

Promises of updates fixing everything is very disappointing. I feel like Charlie Brown trying to kick a football, and BMW is Lucy.

Multiple calls to them. Just now I did again. Couldn't get the app to work fully. It would unlock and i could drive but the state of charge and estimated miles were completely wrong. Met with them back in May I think armed with videos showing malfunctions and it was actually not working. They got in saw the issue and said ok lets let it shut off and see what happens. Of coarse it restarted and started working properly. Guess what happened .... Cant fix something if it doesn't do it while we are looking at what's wrong.

Cant make this up.

Just because you CAN handle this situation doesn't mean that you should.. All makes can produce lemons but it stings when its the best like this. But praying for the end of your lease is a drag and its completely unnecessary. Take your documented issues to a competent lawyer and he'll shred that lease for you! Lifes too short and a 50 mile commute to the dealer and back is a HARDSHIP. You'll probably have to leave it there and give them a shot after you lawyer up but you don't LEGALLY have to keep a lemon. If you want to go it on your own, practice your "bad" face and go off! Work your way up the chain at the dealership and remember these guys spend every waking hour screwing over people like you. They are well versed and accustomed to lying and fabricating! Hate them when you start out and don't expect them to act like real people! Once they realize that you aren't going anywhere they will be FORCED to deal with you so they can get rid of you! Don't EVER lay down for a lemon.. lifes too short!

No disrespect to the OP, but I really think he/she has a lemon on their hands - it’s unfortunate but it seems as though there’s multiple issues that are occurring while the rest of us have one or two things at a time that don’t necessarily rise to a major level. I don’t think you should fear the update.

I agree he should contact BMW USA. I had to back in 95 with my 325i and the dealer in Jacksonville, FL trying to wait out my warranty so they could charge me for a repair instead of fixing it for free. I also wrote up the dealer on BBB! I had a written statement form another Dealer in SC that the issue was a warranty item and the dealer in JAX should have caught it. A bad alternator is not that hard to troubleshoot.

Don't lay down for a lemon. Contact the local News station as well in case they have one of those reporters that like to expose crap like this. Especially in NY they should. I know in Seattle they do. Both BMW AND The dealer won't like the bad press.

Thanks for all the support. I fully understand how Lemon Law works, it is not as easy as it sounds and is a lengthy process. I have contacted BMW US multiple times, and yesterday I called again and directly blamed the s=dealer with there non sense responses. Don't know if it will do any good but, like I said I referenced this site and gave them my user name while encouraging them to read it. The woman I spoke to and all of them are very nice and professional, but that does nothing to fix it. I just don't have the time or desire to constantly bring it in and be given the same tired answers.
I wish there was a way for me to share the video repair messages I received "explaining" like i am a child why the vehicle doesn't work. It is laughable.

You are in Brooklyn, and Habberstad is a way out on Long Island. Have you considered trying a different dealer? There are about a dozen in metro NY. BMW Manhattan is (I think) owned by BMW. I will also PM.

Yes. The bklyn location sucks. Will not go back there. And I would need a loaner. They are hesitant to offer one. I put a call in to BMW. for now will wait to see if they reach out after yesterday’s call.
The vehicle is drivable other than when it doesn’t charge so I can drive it just has so many issues that it’s horrible for a 75-80K car.

I'm reading here in the manual that to perform a hard factory reset of the computer, which can only be applied by BMW dealer or BMW service rep, is to sit in the driver's seat, cross legs, hold nose, and fart. Have they tried that yet? good luck.

You got a lemon. I would definitely contact an attorney and do a buy back. I really have no complaints. My digital key gets wonky, so I just carry the fob with me. That’s it.

I think he needs a priest and some holy water at this point. If it starts arguing with him while he’s driving, I’d leave it alongside the road until they can do an exorcism.

Different car here, 2024 IX50 but After the weekend snafu with BMW servers (I also updated to 7/2024.40 then) I have had the problem with charging in the time slot. I had to go out to the car unplug it and plug back in and it would start immediately . I think it’s working again now but will check tonight. With your slot being 12:01, that’s real annoying, mine starts at 9 pm.

Car play works about 75% of the time for me, a simple reset gets it working most of the time but annoying and that has been going on for months.

Now I have an e sim issue since the weekend snafu and if not resolved will cancel it since I don’t use it much.

Regarding starting charging and stopping, that happens when I plug in the car initially and I think every time I open the doors. Not the worst thing but doesn’t happen if I leave the car alone and plugged in other than the 1 time when plugging in.

No mirror issues here and that is odd.

Connected services may have gone done again yesterday as my app hasn’t updated info the since 1:58 pm yesterday and I have driven the car since.

In addition plug and charge won’t work. There are workarounds but annoying and has been going on for months.

Believe it or not other than those things I love the car, now if the time slot charging doesn’t get fixed , that’s a real problem, the others aren’t that horrible to me at least.

Good luck, hopefully most of your problems are just temporary.

i get to enjoy loaners from this update issue. been driving a m440 loaner, i prefer the lower stance and smaller vehicle size overall. i hope bmw comes out with a i4 coupe soon.

I absolutely love my car but they need to seriously improve their software. All of these issues are inexcusable.
