Backseat room versus G30?

Haven’t had a chance to get in a new 5 yet….but my M8 lease is up in a couple months and I’m leaning towards the M5 or i5 M60i.

How is the backseat room compared to the G30 (or the 8 series GC for those who have driven one)? I’m more concerned about fitting a car seat back there….

I always had to move my passenger seat up in my AMG GT53 and it was a PIA even though that’s a big car. I don’t have to do that in my M8 but I have carbon buckets which is probably why.

Having driven a G30, and an 840i Gran Couple as rentals, And the back seat of a G30 as a passenger, I can tell you the back seat of the G60 is much better than both of these. The G60 was lengthened over the G30, and most of that length is in the rear passenger room. I am 5'9" (Just over 175 cm) But I normally set the seat almost all the way back. I like the steering wheel at just under arms length. And I set up the dealer's demo G60 530i for myself. I could easily fit in the back seat after that with several inches of legroom. I also test drove a G60 540i in Concord, CA earlier this year with my son-in-law. He is 6'2"(188 cm) and I asked him to see how comfortable he was behind me on the demo with the SR next to me. He said his legs were not touching either. So there is plenty of room for a car seat.

According to spec sheet it picked up 0.5 inch of rear legroom compared to g30. Maybe some other dimensions changed that make it feel even larger. Also maybe contributing , I’ve read reviews that in the g60 you ride higher with a higher seating position - this will result in drivers legs more in a chair position, sitting more upright with the seat pushed closer to the wheel compared to lower more extended leg positions.

i had 2 g30 540i's and now a g60 540. the car feels much bigger on the inside. im 5'10", i have plenty of room in the back seat sitting behind my driving position. seating position in front and back, does feel higher up than the g30. the car also feels like its much wider and more spacious inside. when i park it inside my single garage door side, its definitely a tighter fit and the side mirrors have much less space to clear the garage door opening.

One of the reasons I went with the i5 instead of the i4 was rear seat space. I have a forward-facing car seat back there -- tons of room. It would probably fit rear-facing, too, but I haven't tried. Getting the kiddo in and out is no trouble, unlike with an SUV where it's tougher for kids to climb in or out due to the ride height. Need to bend to buckle them up, though.

Adults fit back there, too, with no need to adjust seats for taller passengers and drivers.

The G60 rear legroom feels larger as BMW eliminated the pockets on the backs of the front seats. You get a bit more knee room, but you lose the ambience of the leather (or a simulation thereof). Now just cold, hard plastic. Honestly, the interior of the G60 is closer in quality to the 3 or 4 now. Used to be sloser to the 7. Oh well. Should be fine for the little one's car seat.
