I took CarPlay off because I keep getting dropped calls. It works fine now. I do miss the better maps.

I prefer my BMW navigation and stopped using Apple Maps in my car.

Likewise. Plus you cannot get the AR navigation on the main nav screen using Apple Maps.

I love this feature. I’m on a freeway with 5 lanes and some become exit only. I have a display of those lanes and which one I should be in based on my destination. Then my infotainment screen changes to the camera view and puts arrows for an upcoming turn. Those arrows get bigger as I approach the intersection. The traffic monitoring, the routing based on roads where I would get better efficiency (less hills to climb) are all amazingly useful.

It's extremely useful! I actually prefer it on the main screen vs in the instrument cluster, although I don't know if it will work even in the instrument cluster when using Apple Maps vs BMW nav.

I played around with both ways. I’m not sure Apple Maps will do this. It does lane arrows but the BMW navigation has better clarity.

I read somewhere that BMW is not one of the companies that is compatible with the new car play integration where car play takes control of the whole instrument cluster/ main display. I heard that Porsche and Aston Martin are one of the first ones that’ll have that feature but BMW did not jump on the bandwagon.

Figured this out - In case anyone else needs to find it, on the right side of the nav screen the Guidance Options setting has an augmented view location setting, where you can choose center screen.

I know it’s the not the deeper integration Apple is talking about but you can currently mirror the Apple Maps in the driver’s screen. If you have Apple Maps guidance it’s one of the choices as you scroll through the wheel on the steering wheel.
