M Sport vs Standard Suspensioni

Hi All,

New forum member and scouting for my first BMW.

Just looking for some opinions on getting the G60 and am trying to decide on getting it with or without the M Sport package (cosmetics aside).

I've noticed that the package lists "M Sport suspension" which from what I've read is significantly different than Adaptive M Suspension.

Can anyone provide some recommendations on this? I like the feeling of something that's a bit more buttoned down, but don't want something so harsh that it becomes annoying over uneven surfaces when driven for an extended period of time.

M sport suspension is no where near as harsh as it was before, arguably softer than previous generations of the adaptive suspension. I’d pull the trigger for M Sport.

Does M Sport have any adjustable settings or is it permanent set it and forget it from the factory?

The suspension is not customizable.

The passive 704 M Sport suspension has no adjustment…it’s a single setting and usually a very good sporty suspension that’s not too harsh. But the Adaptive M sport does have typically 2 or 3 settings for comfort and sport and maybe sport+ or adaptive. I have the passive 704 M sport suspension on my 2019 540i (prior generation G30) and new 2024 version of this suspension is supposed to be better because they now use a 2 stage or stroke-dependent damper. This allows it to be more compliant and comfortable during normal driving and stiffer when pushing it through corners.

I've always valued ride comfort over at-the-limit handling prowess so I've always opted for the regular suspension and I've found it to be just about perfect.

If most of your driving is in/around NYC I would too. In our town in MA there are many privately owned streets so the residents opt to not pay to repave them until absolutely necessary. You can’t drive faster than about 10-15 mph because they are so cratered. Handling prowess doesn’t make much difference in situations like this.

One more question. This about finding a way around the engine start stop...on my 2021 540ix, I simply set up a custom driving mode and it went away... Forgive me for not starting a new thread but it's kinda related...my new 540ix is at the dealer and I'll have it in a few days...how are you working around the engine start stop now?

BMW says:
How do I deactivate the Auto Start Stop function in my BMW with Operating System 8 or Operating System 8.5?
To deactivate the Auto Start Stop function in your BMW with Operating System 8 or Operating System 8.5, select in the BMW iDrive operating system: "MENU" > "Vehicle apps" > "Driving settings" > "Drive and chassis" and confirm the one-time Deactivation of the Auto Start Stop function. By pressing the "Driving Settings" button in the center console you can also access the "Drive and Chassis" menu. The automatic switching off of the combustion engine is deactivated for the current journey and is automatically activated again the next time you start driving. Please note: In My Mode "Sport", the Auto Start Stop function is generally deactivated in favor of a sporty drive response. Deactivating the Auto Start Stop function is only possible in vehicles with 12 volt batteries. Further information about the Auto Start Stop function of your BMW can be found in the BMW Driver's Guide app or in the operating instructions.

I was testing 520xd on m Sport Suspension and I was really surprised how comfortable was it.
Comparing to F Series it was like sofa.
Driving in corners I was feeling good support, the car was not waving on the sides.
However, after an hour city driving I felt a Little Bit tired and would prefer regular suspension.
I have one car in my garage for city driving and I would say 5 series is a car w long hauls. That is why M Sport Suspension fit very good for 5 for long hauls.
If you drive 70-100% city get regular suspension.
For Highway M Sport is the best.

I got the M sport package. The ride is fantastic. I think it helps to have a little bit more "stiff" suspension in this car because it is so big and feels substantial when taking a corner. Also, I like the black trim rather than silver.

Has anyone tried this to see if it actually works? I have a 2022 X5, thinking about going back to 540. I HATE A$$ (coded off in my X5 and I have not updated the Idrive version as newer IDrives will not allow Bimmercode to turn off A$$). If this works and a shortcut can be put in Idrive 8.5 it would give me a lot of comfort in staying with the brand. Thanks.

For now coding ASS off or to always start in Sport mode won’t be possible with G60 and iDrive 8 or 8.5.

If you like it a little deeper. Here come springs for 25 mm lower.

I realize you said cosmetics aside, but the Msport-equipped cars usually look pretty good. And, of course, the steering wheel. I'd get it just for that, if nothing else.

G60 with 704 drives great. You're not going to sacrifice comfort over handling. This car is much more comfortable with 704 than G30 ever was.

Suspension aside, I can't imagine getting G60 without the msport package. It would be a must have for me just for the looks alone, otherwise the front looks like the car is suffering from a serious case of receding chin. Looks weak.

Waiting for Carvana to pick my current car up as I type this. As soon as that's done (11:00 hopefully) I'll be on my way to the dealership to take delivery of the 540xi.
